About the game
They took your freedom. It's time to take it back!
Freedom Fighters is an intense third-person action game set in an alternate history New York during the invasion of a foreign superpower. Take on the role of Chris Stone, a hard-working plumber, and rise through the ranks of the resistance to prove yourself as a charismatic leader.
Liberate supplies, scavenge weapons and use the 'recruit and command' system to grow the resistance and lead up to 12 freedom fighters into strategic conflicts throughout the campaign. Travel across the city and complete interconnected missions where your actions in one level affect the battles in another.
Originally released in 2003, IO Interactive's cult classic is now available digitally in its original form for the first time.
About the soundtrack
The Freedom Fighters Soundtrack features 18 tracks that are produced by acclaimed music composer Jesper Kyd. Combining live choir performances by the Hungarian Radio Choir with techno beats and other electronic instruments, Kyd effortlessly captures the vibe of the game and the epic quest to liberate New York from a foreign superpower.

I remember playing this back in 2003.
I forgot what it was all about,
I even forgot it's name..
But I do remember that day, 18 years ago, and the feelings I had.
I stayed at home alone (sick probably) and marathoned it from start to finish, no interrupts- just me and the game. I still remember how much I enjoyed. Best sick day ever !
That was a fun "cranberry" in 2003 (when I played it first), until in 2022 it became my reality.
After the liberation the northen part of the country where I live, I can say that the cruelty of the Russian troops in the game is underestimated. In reality, it's much scarier. Call of Duty was closer to the truth.
I hope everyone understand why this game wouldn't survive if it was made today. I always hear about devs afraid of expressing different artistic visions because they may get cancelled or shamed.
Eidos was such a great company. GOG has many of their best games. I never played this game when younger, but I can totally admire what devs made here. They used the same engine as Hitman 1 but it lacks the proyectile physics of that game, which was similar to max payne 1.
The story is nothing deep but it's brave in the political/ideological concepts involved. Or perhaps it's only brave for today's standards...
