F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin + Reborn

Not bad at all! I dont know how I missed the game back in the days, but its actually pretty darn good!

Not as good as the original F.E.A.R., but still an enjoyable mixture of FPS action and horror. The AI of your adversaries is still daunting, but the overall difficulty of the game seems to have been reduced. You move between shootouts and scary sequences that still unnerve, but I don't think this is as scary as the original. Maybe if you've played through the first F.E.A.R. game, as I have, they don't have the impact that they once did. Anyway, a solid shooter and would still recommend.

The QTEs are stupid and movement is awful, but it doesn't have regenerating health or excessive cutscenes. However, the electricity grenades don't work in water and proximity grenades also rarely work, so the extra tools are worthless. There's only one major flaw: it's ridiculously easy (on medium at least) because the AI was downgraded. Their only gimmick is spamming grenades at you or ambushes from teleporting enemies, which they do for last quarter of this game. There's not even any point wasting your time going into bullet-time most of this game. In 90% of encounters, enemies park behind cover, or bunch up running toward you in a line in cramped linear levels, creating convenient chokepoints. A reminder why the original FEAR remains the gold standard of FPS games.

There's no denying the combat in the original game was fantastic, from the environmental effects to the enemy AI but in other areas it severely lacked. The scares were ineffective once you realized Alma couldn't hurt you and the level design was often confusing and poorly signposted with little in environment variety. The sequel for some reason decided the combat should be less frenetic and the enemies should be a whole lot dumber BUT it also adds much needed variety in locations, NPC's and enemy types. Not only do you get the Replicants from the original, now we have an assortment of mutants to fight too, set against destroyed streets, hospitals, schools, science labs etc. The game also has chances to pilot a mech that just feels great and the scares now are just better with a better sense of dread. I feel that while the original is great for the combat and will always be remembered the fondest, however the sequel is the one that I enjoy playing the most.

This one is worse than bad, it's through and through mediocre, there's nothing to praise it for and there's nothing so bad it makes me laugh. First and foremost are the game's animations, everything from jumping to shooting has no sense of weight or impact, weapons don't feel powerful or anything. There's no atmosphere or style either, no unique mechanics and all of the standout special weapons are awful and handle horribly. The enemy variety is about the same as the first game; mostly just dudes with guns. Basically, this game is a boring slog, spare yourself the "experience".
