This doesn't run, I'm not sure if it's Windows 10 or the fact I've got an Nvidia GPU but either way Fallout 3 doesn't work for me. Googling the situation indicates this problem affects a vast amount of other users. Unless you are certain this will run on your hardware, do not buy. For myself there was nothing to indicate it wouldn't work, and as this is GOG I was complacent in believing the game would work right out of the box.
Lesson learned.
So I wanted to finally play the infamous Fallout 3 after countless hours in other Fallout games, including god tier first two isometric parts, great New Vegas from Obsidian Entertainment, mediocre fourth part and overwhelmingly laughable Fallout 76.
Steam version of the game that I own is not optimised for modern system as the F3 Steam page states, so I was avoiding it due to the fact that I'm incredibly tired at modding Bethesda games. Then I stumbled upon GOG. Fallout 3 GOG page states that this game is compatible with modern systems, so I immediately bought it since there was a big discount, believing that my prayers have been answered.
GOG isn't lying, even though after launcing the game you see a warning about compatibility issues the game runs flawlessly on Windows 10, Ryzen 7 3700X and RTX 2060 Super, but there is one little issue I have with the game. Fallout 3 came out 12 years ago, and by this day's standarts it's outdated and at some points unbalanced and raw, classic Bethesda. So you need to overcome yourself and start modding, that's exactly what I did.
I've never seen such a broken piece of code before, but Fallout 3 took the golden award for that, after installing few mods that tweak the balance, light texture mods like impoved weapons, characters and surroundings and couple more quality of life changes the game managed to become incredibly unstable. Quest started to break, NPCs started doing god knows what like simply not appearing in the places they should and the game manages to crash a lot, even when I'm not touching mouse and keyboard, it lauches properly only after a couple of attempts, it's disgusting, and I'm not new to modding scene. I had to reinstall a game around 5-6 times to start my modding experience from scratch.
Few days later I decided to install only the most important mods, nothing too critical or big and only then it finally decided to work stable.
In conclusion, I still hate you Bethesda, screw you.
Firstly I’d say that I love this game. Fallout 3 was my first RPG and I’ve invested hundreds of hours playing it on xbox 360 over the years.
The fact that I love this game so much is the only reason I stuck with it and didn’t ask for a refund sooner. This game is terribly optimised for Windows 10 users. I had heard that the GOG version was better than Steam and worked straight away, however it would still crash constantly when trying to start a new game despite trying multiple fixes. Personally I would suggest to anyone that bought this game to download TTW but that would also require New Vegas (a great game itself) but you shouldn’t have to purchase a whole other game just to be able to play this one. Installing TTW can also be very confusing for those who are not very experienced in modding and on top of that, I had to download NVAC to stop it from constantly crashing to desktop every time I entered combat. Fortunately, the game appears to be fairly stable now but it required a massive amount of time and effort to finally get working (far more than what is suitable).
As I said above, I love this game so the effort it took was eventually worth it for me, but future buyers should be aware that it may require a tremendous amount of effort and hours of patience and more money just to get it running.
I did install this on fricking low end pc with 8 gb ram amd as cpu runs perfectly over 100 fps but i do have lower settings but the games doesent look bad at all i got it from epic games but my epic games acc got stolen so the data and game folder i linked as executable into gog and it runs perfectly thx gog for saving my game also i linked fallout new vegas ultimate edition thx!!!!
