Excellent port of rpg book to video game

For those who knew the different series of game books in the 80s, whether or not you know the original books on which this game is based, get ready for an excellent game that simulates an open world. There is no end to this story except a brutal end (the game is hard, just like the original books) or your desire to stop your character's adventures... To start a new one with a new character! :) For those of you who haven't experienced the game books, you're likely to miss out completely on what makes this type of game so interesting. I therefore recommend that you try out the demo before deciding whether this is a game for you. [FR] Pour ceux qui ont connu les différentes séries de livres dont vous êtes le héro dans les années 80, que vous connaissiez ou non les livres originaux dont est inspiré ce jeu vidéo, préparez-vous à un excellent jeu qui simule un monde ouvert. Il n'y a pas de fin victorieuse à cette histoire hormis une fin brutale (le jeu est dur, à l'image des livres originaux) ou bien votre envie d'arrêter les aventures de votre personnage... Pour en commencer de nouvelles avec un nouveau héro ! :) Pour ceux qui n'ont pas connu les livres jeux, vous risquez de passer complètement à côté de ce qui fait l'intérêt de ce type de jeu. Je vous conseille donc d'essayer la démo avant de décider si ce jeu est fait pour vous.

Loyal representation of the game books.

This game is loyal to the game books that inspired it; this is both a blessing and a curse. First, the blessing. If, like me, you played the game books when they came out and sank untold hours into exploring this beautiful and mysterious world that the authors created, then it will hit you right in the nostalgia. The same scenarios are present, the world evokes the same feelings, the art and music do justice to the original gamebooks, and the many little touches are there that make the world feel interesting and lived in. Second, the curse. The mechanics that were necessary for a pen and paper solo game don't always lend themselves well to a computer game. Unlucky dice rolls can condemn you in an instant; you can lose all your items and money without recourse to getting anything back, or lose an opportunity that occurs only once in the entire playthrough. Progress is already glacial, and a single setback will undo many hours of hard work.

I tried to like it

To be fair I only spent about 16 hours, but I just couldn't keep playing, the rolls were unfair, I rolled an 11 and still failed the event. Most games that occupy my time I really look forward to playing, not Fabled Lands

Book adaption

Is this a great RPG game on its own, no. The character building is simple, the skill system very limited. However, I have the Fabled Lands books, and as an adaption of the books I think the game is actually a really well done adaption. They have not followed the books 100% e.g. the hex-gonal battle system, but the places where they do separate is to make it a better computer game and I think they have succeeded in that. The Fablled lands books are unique in that they are built in as an expandable world, where each book opens up a new region of the world.
