Game is Faster Than Light 3D crappy parody. No scenario, no space stations, only mindless repetitive runs, strange game mechanics (can collect unlimited resourses, but cannot pick up one more gun). "Leveling" is money grinding by this repetitive runs. Terrible controrls, you can easy be killed during try to switch primary weapon for exaple (why it cannot be done by one key press - no idea). Playing with gamepad is pain. Big disappoitment for me.
If you love Space-shooters, this is the perfect game for you. Somehow the game combines fast-paced combat, ability management, exploration, crafting and ressource management all into one without it feeling either bloated or boring.
I've never made it to the end yet, but I don't really care. Every tun there is so much cool stuff to see and do that even though it's always the same stuff remixed, it never feels old.
That might be in part because the controls are top-notch and the graphics are amazing. The atmosphere really grips me, actually creeping me out a little if I get too close to a black hole. Another cool feature is how impactful the skills are. One of them actually stops time, allowing you to defeat enemies you normally wouldn't be able to. In addition, there are a ton of small things you can find in each system that make exploration feel immersive and rewarding.
I like the idea of Rogue-likes, but generally they don't really capture me the way Everspace has. I'd say give it a shot even if you don't like Rogue-likes usually.
Installed the Linux version through Brave and it works really well, some weirdness around the resolution which I had to remedy by scaling the internal renderer, wound up having the game on mostly high settings except shadows and locked to 45hz using about 12 watts.
The actual game is really fun too, I came back to try this after having a good time with the sequel on early access. Changed the controls to be the same as the sequel and have been getting whooped!
