Encased is an absolute great example of crpg storytelling and gameplay. The original inspriration for the Fallout series, it's easy to see. My only hope is that we will see it grow into a new series, as this is a game deserving of more than a few sequels.
I loved this game in the first few hours I spent only in dialogue choices and character customization. As soon as I got into combat I wanted to quit, there is no cover system, movement in combat is pointless due to high movement costs, and again without a cover system where would you even run to? I haven't finished the game yet and my opinion may change, but for the time being I've quit and am hoping for updates to make the combat system at least a little more varied or smarter.
The game is unfinished and largely empty, they are selling obviously cut content DLC and pushing trans ideology. Avoid it if you have any respect for the hobby.
Note - I own this specific game on steam, not gog.
The game itself (including the kickstarter) has an interesting premise - post apocalyptic scenario in an isolated environment. Lends itself to some retro-futuristic imagination that really has a lot of similar flavor to Fallout.
The problem is in the development, the content (lack of), and the behavior of the developers. Setting aside the sketchiness of pre-release DLC, the list of content additions and bugfixes to the game since early access began would fit on a single piece of paper. There is considerable time and effort by the developers spent on advertising lore 'events' as a way of marketing the game, but actual development changes include things like introduction of a fatigue system as a cheap way of lengthening the already incredibly short, shallow game. It is a mess.
The content patches and changes themselves appear largely to be a shell game - moving and rearranging existing elements to produce the illusion of content development and encourage continued support from their customer base. I don't know whether they're doing this simply because they run out of money, or they decided that their existing plan wasn't going to work out and its time to cut and run.
Either way - the game is not fun, not developing, and is going nowhere fast. STEER CLEAR.
