Okayish game
It’s my least favorite piranya bytes game.The story and characters are pretty boring in this game but the jet pack is pretty fun to use.I also think it’s less immersive than the previous titles because this is the first character which has a name so roleplaying gets a little punch there.I hope they bring back the nameless route because without it it doesn’t feel like a piranya bytes game

Rough around the edges but well worth it
This game feels much older than it is. The animations, gameplay mechanics, even your movement through the world and the sound effects feel like they're from a game 15 years older. The combat checks the right boxes for a modern third person RPG in theory (stamina bar, block, dodge roll, attack combos), but in execution is clunky and not nearly as refined as its contemporaries (though once I got used to it I still found it enjoyable). Whether all this is a deal breaker instead of charmingly quaint depends on whether you still enjoy the old school RPGs you played 15-20 years ago. However, if you are someone who likes deep open world RPGs, I absolutely recommend you ignore those concerns and play this. Because there still aren't really any games out there that quite scratch the same itch (other than PB's prior games). This is an open world RPG, that has the large handcrafted world full of environment storytelling and secrets, and no map full of questions marks to hold your hand (like Elder Scrolls). However, it combines this with a deeper, more character-driven story you'd see in a game like The Witcher 3. Granted, the open world is smaller with less to do than Skyrim, and the story won't win the same writing accolades as The Witcher, but it still has a compelling world with plenty to do and a cast of characters with believable personalities that develop through your interactions with them. Add to this that PB is still fantastic at creating a faction system with believable societies that have distinct feels, rules, motivations, and ways of navigating the harsh world they find themselves in. You have to choose one to join in your game, and it really makes your choice feel impactful on your playthrough. I also enjoyed the science fantasy setting. The stylistic mix of medieval fantasy and scifi is unique and compelling, and not found in many other games. Bottom line: If you like the genre and style and don't mind playing games that aren't AAA masterpieces, play it

Not bad, just meh.
After 5 hours of playing I can say it's not bad, is it a be all end all kind of game? No, it's a game for those that want to explore and those that enjoy RPG aspects it has many problems such as the combat, but if you can move past these issue it has a good amount of good underneathmaking it an enjoyable experience.

Nice setting but terrible combat system
My main gripe with Elex is the totally retarded combat system. Even when totally leveled up, it's impossible to strike more than a few sword blows in a row and it takes extremely long to recover stamina. Even worse, there's a super dumb auto-lock feature that can't be permanently switched off. Together with excessively slow dodging and totally weird hitboxes, this results in sword combat being a total pain in the rear. As the best way to quickly recover stamina and escape the auto lock is to activate the jetpack, sword fights end in hitting two or three times and then using the jetpack or running around until it recharges. Fighting multiple opponents is somewhat impossible due to the lack of sweeping blows and the retarded auto-lock. In sum, this is the worst combat system I ever came across (including Witcher 1+2). Also the balancing is totally screwed up. It takes forever until you can even use proper weapons, improve skills or manage to do easy quests without running all the time. The first 10 or 12 levels are a pain. Rocket launchers etc. are totally useless until you upgrade them - like you can virtually shoot 20 rockets at bigger enemies without any effect while attacking with a sword will cause immediate damage. Also skills to equip weapons are totally arbitrary, e.g. one laser gun needs very high intelligence and the other one very high strength. Then there's the graphics and while the landscape and animals look somewhat nice, the terrain has very little polygon detail. Looking too closely at (normal) textures reveals a staggering lack of detail as well (helmet in the intro!!!). All characters look alike and most are butt ugly with terrible facial animations. Like both women to "romance" look like eastern European hammer throwers. Some quests were broken and dialog options reversed. Message popups or alt-tab led to crashes. Still, I liked the post apocalyptic setting, the jet pack and the world design and kinda enjoyed most of the 52h hours I put in it.
