Average open world ARPG

This game is extremely average in many regards, lacking in certain aspects but entertaining after all. The game offers many features each with their own strong and weak points. - Customization: There's plenty of options when creating your main character and companion. You can choose from many defaults and go deeper into the modifications if you wish. In terms of equipment you can choose from a decent variety of well designed and immersive armours and the clothes to wear underneath. - Leveling system: Very poorly explained in game but somewhat simple. The stats are leveled automatically depending on your class. Each one boosts your attributes differently when leveling up. You can purchase class changes and swap at the vendor to manipulate your stat growth. - Mechanics: The fighting and skill system is OK. Choosing one class or another feels very different as warriors are incredibly slow but powerful while rangers are more reliant on positioning. Still, the AI is terrible as some enemies will sometimes ignore you and other times they'll pile on you granting a kill no matter what you do. Enemies can keep comboing you in succession rendering you unable to move. You can heal all you want but you'll die regardless since their combo will never stop (and we're talking about mere bandits, not bosses). You can make very cinematic moves sometimes timing well your abilties and combat can be a lot of fun. Missions are really dull and uneventful though. The game is filled with menial tasks like "talk to people around town" or "escort diiferent NPCs from A to B over and over". - Story: Dull and cliché to the extreme. You are the chosen one to kill the great evil. Characters are very uncharismatic. Companions are literal zombies with no will or personality (and this is another thing not explained in the game but you can make them totally useless in combat via dialog). -Graphics and sound: Very monotone ambience and forgetable music. Monster design is simple and unoriginal.

Broken Quests Frustration

Admittedly, I found the style of the game a little less than inspiring during my first hour or so of play, but I soldiered on and actually found myself liking the game more as it progressed. It was growing on me, which was pleasing as I learned more about the mechanics of play and how to do different things. However, sixteen hours into the game I started 'discovering' that the scripting of many quests is simply abysmal. There was an early sidequest I had apparently failed without realising, because I'd proceeded naturally through an early main storyline checkpoint, again without realising it would affect any sidequests, because they're mostly your bog standard fetch this, find that, escort him/her type fayre. Whilst failing a sidequest shouldn't be an issue, when you fail 'sidequest A' and then subsequent sidequests are reliant on its completion, suggests a poorly scripted and broken quest mechanism. Indeed, if you've failed 'sidequest A' then the game shouldn't even be offering 'B, C, D,' etc, as part of a linked string of quests. Essentially, what that led to was wandering around a large game world trying to fulfil subsequent quests, that can never actually be completed, all because 'sidequest A' failed, and meaning that characters and locations mentioned in the subsequent quests never appear. I only discovered that by looking through guides online, which often pointed to the broken and poorly scripted quest mechanisms. The only recommendations were to do certain sidequests in a specific order of sequence, before accepting or doing others. Truth be told, these quest problems make Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen seem like a game that doesn't know what it wants to be, whether that's an open world sandbox, an RPG adventure on rails, or a mixture of the two. The problem with the latter is that it utterly fails to connect the two with any coherence. There's a good game here, but sadly, one that's buried in bugs and poor scripting that ruin the experience.

A Good but still BROKEN Game

First things first: A major issue is that the pawn rental system currently doesn’t work properly in this version of the game, likely due to a bug that hasn't been addressed by GOG or Capcom. If you're seriously considering buying Dragon’s Dogma, I recommend getting it through Steam, where the rental system works as intended and the relevant bugs have been fixed. Other than that the game is a solid RPG with an amazing open world. The Pawn System is interesting, as you create your own ally that you can lend to other players and it will help them with knowledge aquried during your travels and adventures. This part is working. The broken part is that won't get any Compensation for lending your ally that way, so it's more in the realm of "why bother" getting the pawns monster knowledge up and completing various tasks around the system. The Steam Version works as intended, so if you care about the pawn system it's probably best to buy it there.

战斗非常不错

我是在switch上买的，刚开始玩很难受，弓箭打不到人，近战被土匪秒，重开玩法师，玩到20级以后才真正吸引我。在黑咒岛就打了150小时，呆萌死了不下100次。物品系统还是不太行，复制素材要找半天，希望第二部能有进步（不知道pc体验，只是想说说）

Outstanding game just lacking more

Open world RPG with THE best combat, bosses and MAGIC ever presented in a video game. MONSTERS There are many horrific and MASSIVE creatures that you fight in real time and at real scale. Think of shadow of colossus but less restricted. Absolutely one of a kind and EPIC fun and terror. COMBAT is very fluid and the furthest thing from clunky, again as action goes nothing has come close since, you'll love it. MAGIC the first game I ever played where magic felt right. I mean you are magic user with command over mystic energies of the universe. It takes you an eternity to cast a spell and you are vulnerable the whole time but if you manage to unleash your power then the destruction the highest tier spells can bring down is breathtaking. Unfortunately the game is pretty weak in all other respects. The world is pretty lifeless and you wont give a damn about any of the characters save a few. It offers very little in the "open world" sense and your path in the game is obviously very linear. The NPCs and quests are rather boring and the areas you frequent will quickly become non challenges. Truthfully, I enjoyed battling through Bitterblack Isle over and over again and never bothered with the main game much after that. There is no variety to the gameplay. There is a huge variety and of monsters and their AI and scripts are very well developed. Their animations clearly took a great deal of effort. This game could have been one of the best games ever made if they took the combat, monsters, magic and some of the beautiful epic landscapes and coupled it with a deep and immersive game world of options and freedom. Nonetheless if you like RPGs should definitely own Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen. You get many hours of really exciting action out of it. Just dont expect and emotion or immersion.
