Developed by id software, the studio that pioneered the first-person shooter genre and created multiplayer Deathmatch, DOOM returns as a brutally fun and challenging modern-day shooter experience. Relentless demons, impossibly destructive guns, and fast, fluid movement provide the foundation for intense, first-person combat.
Story
You’ve come here for a reason. The Union Aerospace Corporation’s massive research facility on Mars is overwhelmed by fierce and powerful demons, and only one person stands between their world and ours. As the lone DOOM Marine, you’ve been activated to do one thing – kill them all.
A Relentless Campaign
There is no taking cover or stopping to regenerate health as you beat back Hell’s raging demon hordes. Combine your arsenal of futuristic and iconic guns, upgrades, movement and an advanced melee system to knock-down, slash, stomp, crush, and blow apart demons in creative and violent ways.
Please note: The DRM-Free version of DOOM (2016) is single-player only. Multiplayer and online functionality for SnapMap are not included. SnapMap content is unlocked by default.
It feels good when a great title like Doom (2016) finally comes to GOG. Not only am I a huge Doom fan but I'm a big supporter of GOG. This is a huge win for GOG, Bethesda/ ID, and the community. Thank you!
Doom 2016 has great graphics, good gameplay, good monsters, good weapons (the upgraded supershotgun is great) and a scenario (simple but well written) that contributes to the atmosphere. If you like classical Doom games (Doom and Doom 2), you should like Doom 2016. Many monsters have been copied from classical Doom (imp, pinky, spectre, mancubus, revenant, hell knight, baron of hell), with recognizable characteristics. The game alternates very dynamic combat phases (you should never stop moving) in arenas with many monsters and exploration phases, with a few platform phases. This alternance is well dosed when following the "obvious" linear path but you can increase the exploration phase by searching for secrets areas. The game make you feel very well the superhuman strength, speed and dexterity of the main character (Doom slayer). However, with only 13 maps, the game has a short duration. I did not test multiplayer.
Regarding this copy it's been stripped of any online elements so there's no multiplayer or community maps although you can still use SnapMap to create and play your maps.
Otherwise this is my favourite DOOM. DOOM Eternal was too fast paced for me and had way too much platforming for my taste. This one lets you breathe a little bit more, take your time exploring.
I have this game on Steam and bought it the day I found out it was on GOG. An awesome action FPS that takes all the good stuff from past DOOM games and puts in just enough new stuff to modernize it without taking away what makes DOOM great.
Minus 1 star for no multiplayer (come on Bethesda, it's nine years old, throw us a bone), but I mostly play campaign anyway so no big loss.
