Divine Divity - the RPG of RPGs!!

This was the most memorable rpg i have ever played. An amazing detailed story; many different enemies; a unique system for usage of items. For the latter its unique because in order to use certain items you have to build specific skills. Like wanting to use a big battle axe - you have to improve your strength. If you are one of those people that is too lazy to go through the story, than don't bother. You might as well go play some mundane, boring, and repetitive game like Diablo which offers nothing but mindless clicking. But i disgress. Divine Divinity has a long and very enjoyable story. You always feel on edge because you don't know when you will be attacked in many instances. Exploring for items and such doesn't get tedious because ther is ALWAYS some tiny story with a villager or a priest et cetera, to keep your interest and even help you find items. All in all you MUST play this and its sequel Beyond Divinity. Far superior to an RPG out today in every way.

Hack & Slah? No. Shoot & Run? Yes

Choose one: Create melee character, carefully put together talents and collect good gear and still get munched by 2 equal level enemies. Or Create ranged character, dump everything into Agility, pick up composite bow at level 3 and add extended field of view. Now you can kill enamies doulbe of your level. I palyed so many games like this and never seen melee playstile being so terible. Additionaly quest log and map are both useless: map doesn't have names of buildings or even vilage names so you have to memorise this and quest log doesn't tell you next step what you need to do: you have to gess it...

Okay ... for the price

The bad: - spelling errors, quite a few - there is no "examine" ability and by clicking on an item you automatically steal it, prompting NPC aggression - plot developments seem to be copied from other RPGs, I had a hard time getting immersed - inventory system is clumsy The good: - voice acting: impressive (where it exists) - combat system: point, click, repeat until dead... simple and sufficient - cheap price

Great

This game is just great! It is hard, but then you will kick yourself when you realise that you need to plan your attacks, instead of rushing in. The graphics are a delight to look at, and the story is great too.

Not my cup of tea

This game is like Diablo, but with some more depths and a more interesting storyline. I bought it for the story and the roleplaying, not for the hack'n'slash and when I realized it acutally features extensive dunguens with tons of mindless butchering of enemies, I was out and never gave it a second try. Don't get me wrong: The graphics are great, the music fun, the characters well developed and the skill-system adds just enough juice to make you want to level-up. But I don't like playing games just to level up or get the next, even more powerful item. I like to play them for the story, to be immersed in the setting and the character or party I am exploring the game-world with. So this game is not my cup of the at all. It looked promising. After all, I am probably not the only fantasy-fan who, while playing Diablo, thought how good the game could have been did with a meaningful and less trashy story, with challenging quests and interesting characters. And Divine Divinity looked like it tried to be just that. But it isn't. It's just the most sophisticated Diablo-clone on the market - nothing less, nothing more.
