A decade after the First Great War, the final prophecy continues to unfold. Deep within the crevices of the Sacred Lands, the Chosen One has emerged, fated to bring salvation to some and destruction to others.
Braced with renewed faith and newfound conviction, each race must once again take up the sword for the sake of their people and the glory of their God.
Set in the magical realm of the Sacred Lands, four races - the Empire, the Mountain Clans, the Legions of the Damned, and the Undead Hordes - battle for the destiny of their gods. All of the campaigns and hundreds of hours of gameplay in one adventure package.
It doesn't work on Windows 10 !!!!!
The Game - 5 STARS!
GOG - no stars ..... shame on you for selling games that don't work and calling yourself good OLD games
The game by default does not launch on windows 10. Which is not good, especially since you probably paid for this. Not to mention is says clearly on the sidebar that it has windows 10 compatibility.
You can fix the base game to work with a mod. Fully recommend everyone to do that. The mod doesn't make the expansion work. Still waiting for gog to fix the port.
Will change my review when it gets fixed.
I played this game as a demo back in 2002, I was 11 back then; immediately I fell in love with the arts, the background, the music, the general dark theme of it.
The demo only allowed the player to play first level of the undead campaign, and I played it for hours.
What I really really loved was the fact that you had an hero + 3/5 party members, each gaining experience and being able to evolve to a different creature.
I bought the full game on CDs a couple of years later, and after 22 (!) years I still play it thanks to GOG :D
By default the game doesn't work unfortunately on Win11, but as others mentioned, online there are tweaks to make it start.
Now I'm playing it on my LegionGo without any issues, and I'm sure this game will accompany me throughout my life.
If you love fantasy turn based strategy games with a great setting, enjoyable graphics and art, this is the game for you.
Now excuse me, but my undead army is waiting for my orders!
The Disciples series has always had a special place in my heart. I don't think they were ever huge commercial hits, and the series future certainly looks grim now.
However my introduction to Disciples 2 was a demo disc included in an issue of PC Gamer. It may just be the demo I have played the most...ever.
That demo was what ultimately made me buy the full game. I fell in love with the dark gothic fantasy atmosphere. The artwork was so well done. Everything from the Units, portrait cards, to the UI itself oozed atmosphere.
The atmosphere also extended to the excellent audio and music. Each of the game's 4 factions had appropriate music that captured them perfectly.
The Empire with it's humans and focus on angelic units worshiping the Highfather had angelic melodies. The Legions of the Damned and the Undead Hordes had dark and foreboding tracks. The Mountain Clans too had airy windswept peaks and drums.
The game itself is a turn based strategy game in which you play as one of four factions all vying to expand your influence and control over the map. To do this you capture cities. Rod bearers like the archangel can plant rods near resources to control these to further expand your faction's influence.
Each turn you gain resources like gold, mana, etc. which can be used to research spells and build structures. You can only research one spell each turn. You can only build one structure a turn. This forces you to choose which trees you want to invest in. Your units gain XP and level up and can then be promoted along with your leaders.
This is an incredibly deep and satisfying turn based strategy game that drips with atmosphere. For $10 you get a hell of a lot of content and value here.
I would give it 5 stars, but this version is bad :/
It took me HOURS to make this game run.
Quite sad it took me this long,
I even downloaded a pirated copy in my frustration to see if that ran.
Of course it did, out of the box without a crack or anything.
But nope, this one requires me to first set compatibility to windows XP, then delete ddraw.dll for some reason, otherwise it crashes with
"Exception code: C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION"
Alright, let's enjoy the game now, right?
Well... sort of.
For some reason it doesn't play that tiny little sound when I confirm a dialog.
Every other sound works, but this little paper scroll sound doesn't.
I would've never guessed how much I can miss such a short 0.1s long sound.
It's crazy.
But I want that sound back :(
