Better than any of the other Diablo games. A motherf****ng classic

Noticed a lot that people tend to compare the games with newer games, don't do that! This game is the first in it's genre, and Gog has kept it like it was which is great! I spend a lot of time on this game when I was younger. The new Diablo's (2 and 3) kept the controles just as simple, which is a major + for gameplay. The brilliant option to hold down shift and just hitting the mouse button to attack without moving is something I still enjoy in Diablo 3! It works great for the rogue, the Amazone in Diablo 2 and the demon hunter in Diablo 3! All in all a graphic master piece for it's time, and the thrill it brings when you open the door from the Butchers hideout and hear the well known lines "FRESH MEAT" still makes me jump 20 years later :) This is like a lot of other real classics worth the money £7.89 or $10 is not a lot for a game that has made a huge difference in the gaming world.

For those reading this and being born on the 80's, you most surely remember this game: it was an awesome game back in the day with good graphics (back then) and an interesting story. Lots of playable hours from Blizzard. For those reading this and being born after the 80's, you most likely won't remember this gem and you won't know what you have been missing; blood, slight gore and lots of click-and-explore to reach the final destination. GOG did a good thing by making this available - lots of people asked for it a while back, remember the poll? - as it should be enjoyed by anyone willing to spend €8.89 (at the time of this review) or around $10. Even though I still have the game on CDs, I'd be willing to buy it again but not for this absurd price. Let me know when it drops to a fair price - let's say €4/€5 GOG?

Diablo 1 ... the good old days. Back in the days I was a high school kid that played the demo (1 big level) hundred times, was over the top hyped for the full release, and was standing with the box in my shaking hand. It was my first and only pre-ordered game ever. You have to remember that in those days people were excited over Commander Keen (just YouTube it). After getting home and boot the game, I went down the stairs to the second level in matter of minutes, and completed the merely 16 levels in a single day. I was hoping for more, I didn't get more. Maybe you can remember the release trailer of Diablo 3? A 15 min long story with an endless wave of creatures climbing walls, mercenaries that get squashed, and an interesting boss battle ripping the head off a hero. All gone upon release... generic halls filled with generic monsters. Fun, yes! But not as involving, not as captive as it can be. Years later, I was still hungry and got my hands on the expansion, Hellfire, made by another company. It was broken. It had no (demon) soul. Don't buy it when it comes out! Last year, having nostalgic Diablo 1 feelings, I found a mod called Belzebub (google: diablo 1 mod). Normally, I like vanilla games and hate mods (betrayal of the theme/soul or something). However, Belzebub actually extends the game massively while retaining the devil's soul and it adds challenge. Do yourself a favor and try it! Trying to put my nostalgia aside and having so much choice of ARPGs, I think new people will put it down in matter of minutes. Maybe some will like the theme, give the controls some time to grow on you, and will have a great time (day for vanilla, weeks/months with Belzebub). You might even start to understand why 'us oldies' are complaining so much about today games.

This game is old. It's slow, some enemies are frustrating because it's hard to catch up when they decide to run away, there are some other complaints here and there but all of the issues pale when you look at how wonderfully atmospheric the game is as a whole. I'm sure most of these other reviewers remember their first butcher appearance. Diablo 1 is a groundbreaking game experience and despite all of its faults it's 100% worth experiencing.
