Overall I have to say it's fun for a while, until you get taunting / stunning groups of enemies, combined with having too many potential cards in each merc's deck. Probably be better over time, but the ramp up is pretty quick.
There is no way to disable an autosave, which is simply unforgivable. I went into a run, finished a fight by the skin of my teeth, then decided after getting back to the main area that I didn't in fact want to do that fight. So I tried to load the last manual save I had, and it was overwritten by the autosave, meaning I had no choice but to proceed to heal everyone or get new characters, either of which wold bankrupt me and hobble my game for the next several levels if I played perfectly.
I wasn't really expecting much from this game, since I'm not a fan of card turn based games in general, but this really cemented my dislike for it.
The art style is good, the combat is decent, but not if I don't have control over my own saves.
First things first heed the title. I found it hard to stop playing this game.
I bought this game on a whim as it falls in the same category as Duskers and Starcrawlers. You explore spaceships this time in order to get navigational data so that you can unlock more spaceships which should lead to a lost Mother ship and a life without worry for you and your team. Or so we are told as the game is incomplete. The card based fighting system already works superb and prevents the usual “higher level stuff is always better” syndrome as you have to mix and match different weapons and equipment pieces to build your deck without cluttering it with too many useless cards. More often than not I dropped some higher level equipment as it did not fit into my deck.
I played through the available content and the game itself worked without problems or major bugs and if I had not known that this game is still in development I would have thought it was already complete. The missing end was a dead giveaway though.
So in conclusion I am looking forward to the finished product.
Beside of nice graphics, game is dull an boring. No voice-overs, no animations, no cutscenes. Just a few graphics of shops, motherbase facilities and battlegrounds on the derelicts. And the worst, is the randomness. I hate games, where you have to study fan made solutions just to get anywhere in the game itself. Look at the forums - you are getting yours ass kicked? Search for a walkthrough, Thanks, but no, i dont have for this. This is a game, not a homework to be done,
First off, I'm in love with this game. It's perfect to play during my lunch break at work. It's got a lot of great things going for it:
Art Style- VERY reminiscent of old sci-fi comic books. It looks awesome. If you've ever seen the 1960's Lost In Space series, the "retro-futuristic" style of clothing and ship design reminds me of that.
Music- the music is perfect for the look and feel of the game.
Card Based Combat- Your equipment determines what cards you have available to you. You have a deck of cards that is drawn from randomly, and it is made up of all the cards equipped because of your equipment, and any modifications for your equipment as well. You are constantly getting better equipment which offer better perks and or cards.
Derelicts- Old, ancient, abandoned space ships that have all manner of creatures/decrepit robots/ or other scavengers swarming around them. They get harder as you progress, but they're not too difficult to navigate once you know what you're looking for.
Why dock it a star? The ONLY reason this is a 4 star and not a 5 star game is because of the limited roster. As of right now you can only have up to 3 crew members, period. You can't have any waiting back at the base while you send 3 of your larger crew. It's 3. Yes, there's multiple classes available... but you can only have 3 at a time. That really does put a cramp in a game like this. I wanted to be able to train up multiple types of crew members and see what groups work best together, but unfortunately, unless a crew member dies, you are stuck with just the 3 classes of your 3 member crew.
Fantastic game otherwise. I continue to play and explore and trick out my 3 man crew and it's wonderful. Just wish I could do more with a larger crew.
