I really tried to get into this, but it is so empty and full of let downs: promises an anti-corp theme, delivers the opposite; promises freedom, has little. Promises a big open world, but stand on any street and you will see 20 of the same toon walking by. It has a great look and vibe. Ultimately, it does not deliver. Maybe someday it will.
This game started great. You meet V, you start to hustle, everything is good, until everything starts to fall apart. For me, the main story had a good potential but at some point it becomes to feel like a chore and not as the main story. The endings are absolutely atrocious and all of them seem like a spit in the player's face. I have around 70 hours but I am pretty sure that the main quests took me only 10 hours.
The only thing that kept me glued to this game was the gunplay and some interesting side quests. This, in my opinion, is the only good thing.
I played on v1.3 but there are still a lot of bugs. Police is a joke, they spawn on you, they don't follow you and you can even get wanted stars just by roaming.
The voice acting was generally good. Played with female V and I liked it, even though sometimes some lines were said too loud without a reason.
In my opinion, this game is not worth it.
Look the premise of the game is good, cinematics are good and story is good. The problem is anything you do outside quest cinematics is packed full of all kinds of bugs. I bought the game at launch and every time they push a new patch through I try to start a new playthrough but don't get that far into it because the sheer frequency of bugs showing up that completely breaks any immersion you start to build.
So here is just a very small list of things I've seen in my latest playthrough on patch 1.3 (9 months after the release):
- Inputs freeze after you alt tab from the game
- Chase a hacked Delamain and said Delamain just ends up freezing in the air (had to steal a car just to use it as a platform to be able to reach the Delamain that froze in the air)
- One of the very first missions in Arasaka tower NPC guards appear out of nowhere right behind you,
- Got the quest to from the dude who lives in your building to join a shooting contest. I go there, get through the quest then get out and every one in the building is doing the whole panic move where they crouch and don't move.
- I was driving my car through the city and just very slightly clipped a pedestrian NPC with it (they didn't even fall down). Next thing everyone just starts to straight out run in panic or do the stupid crouch in fear thing.
- I was on a mission where you have to go into a wharehouse that has a lot of explosives lying around. I killed all NPCs and was just looting items and then all of a sudden my character gets to like 2hp. I look around and it looks like this weird physics engine they have randomly threw the gas tank when I was walking close to it.
And I'm not even talking about all the mechanics (like interractions with the police) that they promised and didn't deliver. CDPR, I hope it was worth chewing through all that goodwill that you've build up with Witcher 3. After this botched release, you're on the same level as all of your scummy industry peers like EA or Ubi etc.
The game is good, the characters, their stories, the setting, the graphics (minus the lifeless city),the gameplay (minus the crafting and shallow RPG elements) are well done imo, but the glitches and bugs really pull me out of the imersion of the game even after all this time they can't seem to figure out how to fix the random pop ins, pedestrian being stuck on walls or having cars disapear out of nowhere when you turn away from them.
And that's me not even taking into consideration how pretty much half of the sh!t promised is not even in the game. This is what CDPR is gonna be sadly imo, because we as gamers let it happen. CDPR will become one of those overpromising and underdelivering companies like EA or Ubisoft. Welp if they are gonna make their games like this I'm just gonna wait about 2 years after the game's launch until it's in a somewhat playable state and only gonna buy it at half price, hey you give me half of the promises? I'll give you half of the money. You dropped the ball with this one CDPR. Good thing the writting is still really good in your games. 7/10 and if we are couinting what was promised to us it's a 5/10.
