After all this time the game still seems to have massive basic problems. Like not starting at all, as in my case.
Workarounds are said to be: completely uninstall and reinstall drivers for graphics and C++.
Erm, no i won't because every other program on my system runs just fine. So the problem is on the developers end, not mine.
Regarding drivers: Launcher (GoG Galaxy) told me to update my old graphics drivers. Ok did that, no harm there.
And guess what: afterwards the launcher was still complaining about outdated drivers.
So sadly another disappointment and refund request. And even more sadly these are beginning to pile up...
Rejoice! Nvidia has finally fixed their proprietary drivers, and the game is now playable fully (including RT, and PT tech demo) on Linux via compatibility programs on the latest patches (1.6, 2.x), excluding minor occasional cosmetic glitches.
Unfortunately the game itself remains boring, lacks in direction, and suffers from awful pacing, notably, at the beginning.
Cyberpunk2077 is probably the worst start to a game I've ever experienced. The player gets rushed through a very short prologue depending on which lifepath they've chosen. The prologue has no tangible impact on V or the player. Everyone would have been better served by a simple cutscene, than a lifeless rush through a corridor of characters in an unknown environment none of which are explained to the player. And it all gets worse when the player is dumped into Night City as most features are just dumped on the player without any introduction apart from poorly-written tutorial boxes when they walk out the door. We get it, it's an open-world game, but this was simply lazy beyond belief. The game attempts to excuse this with the post-prologue cutscene montage where V builds his life back and now is a real citizen of NC. This obviously means that you, as the player, should be able to have access to it all immediately. But if it took V that long to get connected in NC and learn the ropes, the devs expect the player to just "have at it"? Awful design.
Speaking of awful design. Cyberpunk2077 menus are absolutely abysmal. There is no other way to put it. Endless scrolling from left to right, with nested menus whose structure is never shown to the player anywhere. Does the menu go deeper? Nobody knows. Also, have you noticed how in the scanner view you can see available hacks on the right on a tabbed panel? But the actual cost is on the other side of the screen on the left? Yeah. Very clever (not).
CDPR removed my last review for "not following rules". Despite two dozen people "finding it helpful". Shameful.
They still didn't add FSR 3.1 nor Xess 1.3.1 but they keep updating DLSS... You can see clearly that is an nVidia founded game as that's the only upscaler they keep updating even after their "last update".
Great game if you ignore the bugs and own a 40 series card, bad for everyone else.
This game may have started badly, what with all the bugs and issues at launch day, but the devs worked exceptionally hard to fix it and it shows.
Nowadays, this game is a legend. Almost everything about it is exceptional, although driving on the streets of Night City is still a frustrating experience because of the camera and the overly-sensitive controls when using a keyboard. That being said, the story is excellent, the side quests are legendarily good, the characters are absolutely amazing, the world feels real and the combat feels very good. The graphics part is superlative and the sound is legendary, especially the SAMURAI songs.
The Phantom Liberty expansion is an amazing addition to the game, with a story easily better than most full games. Everything about the expansion is exceptional.
Keanu Reeves and Idris Elba are dowright amazing in their roles.
Don't play this because it's a CDPR game, don't play it because it's a Cyberpunk game, play it because you deserve to play an exceptional game.
Wow is this game a mess. The F key is locked and cannot be rebound. It stutters and freezes every 60 seconds for at least 1-2 seconds every freeze. Its more like a flash animation slide show than a game when action happens. By far one of the best character creators but once you get past that it bogs down in performance even under moderate settings. I look forward to playing this next year when they patch and fix the game breaking bugs it has now.
