Play Cyberpunk 2077 for the story.

I originally pre-ordered Cyberpunk 2077 a few months before it was released, and I would be foolish to say I wasn't disappointed when it came out. I was. CDPR had promised so much with 2077's "branching storyline" calling it the "next generation of open-world adventure," yet it delivered so little in that regard. Cyberpunk was an absolute mess when it came out. I frequently got game-breaking bugs to where I had to reload a save to start a quest, or if I walked in a certain area, my entire game would crash. As of now, I have encountered very few bugs. Regarding specs, you need a powerful PC. The gameplay is okay. The guns and vehicles have very interesting designs, quickhacking and cyberware feel underwhelming, the gunplay is a little clunky and dated along with the melee, the driving mechanics are alright, and the RPG aspect of the game runs a little thin. The only thing really found in the skill trees are percentage increases, which is underwhelming. As for the story, I'd say Cyberpunk 2077 has one of if not the BEST video game stories I have ever seen. Cyberpunk 2077 stays very true to the original source material it was based on, and the cyberpunk genre. While it may not have its "branching storyline," it has a very enjoyable story. Cyberpunk's characters feel very alive, and make Night City feel like a very believable city. This game does an exceptional job at portraying corporate corruption and greed, and how people abuse cybernetics and other technology that exists in the world. A lot of the greatness in this game lies in the side quests around Night City. Each side quest is different, and might potentially affect the ending you choose at the end of the game. The endings are very bittersweet, and leaves you feeling empty after being emotionally immersed in this game. I am beyond excited for the DLC. If you are going to play Cyberpunk for its gameplay, then find another game. If you are going to play Cyberpunk for its story, I 100% recommend it.

fine, if it works

As one of the lucky few that could get it to work on launch, I had a great time for the first 57 hours. The last 3 took away any interest I had in a replay. Lifepaths and perks don't change enough to make it worth it, the driving system feels atrocious (I will never understand why they didn't just CTRL+C CTRL+V GTA's system), and the ending...the less said about that the better. Spent the next 15 or so hours 100%ing the game but nothing they've added in the time since has made getting back into it worth it, putting aside the fact that this game did such a number on my CPU that I don't think I can even get it to run above 20 FPS at this point. It's a good one-and-done. Don't let Edgerunners bait you into thinking it's anything different.

I really wanted to like this game...

This games was fun. I liked a lot of things this game has to offer: - scenery - story - characters - music - attention to detail I really wanted to reward it with 5 stars but it wouldn't be just. Your experience in-game is spoiled by things. - bugs - details in story - endings (yes, extrememly poorly written I am serious) It was worth its 50% discounted price

buy it at your own risk

Bought the game on release, immediately realised what it was not, and dropped it after playing a few main mission and exploring around. Back then I had almost no bug, the real issues were the poor design and programming of the game, was cheap and I had no interest playing such game especially after what WE were promised. Hoping something would change (most of the customers complained and it was quite a scandal back then to the point that even CdProjectRED apologized) I said to myself that I would pick up this game in a later moment. 2 years later, mods, patches, and people talking good enough, maybe it was time to come back. So I did. Result: I never had so many bugs and glitches in a game, I normally dont give that too much weight if the game's worth it, I knew the game itself was what it was (brainless npc, scripted on-rail chasing, police system that is a crime itself, poor shop design, character editor, driving system, stealth, and more) BUT, I made peace with it, I decided I just wanted to try and enjoy the story and the world, since the visuals and the city are amazing, truly. So I did play, until, NOW. Nearly at the end of act 2, the game has decided to block my camera visual randomly during mission or whatever, reloaded 10 times to finish a main mission, the mood completely broken and I had to finish it while my camera was locked watching the ground ( barely knowing where I was going). Hoped the mission was the issue, then continued the game doing other side\main missions only to find out that the camera would keep getting stuck forcing me to reload, last a few seconds again the locked, and reload again. Never had this problem before and now the game is perma broken, it is impossible to even continue playing like this. Besides, everyone has different issues with this game. At this stage this game is a gamble, if you are lucky you won't experience major bugs, if not, your game will break, are you happy to give any money for this? I don't think so.

I dig it.

Where the game shines: Combat is exhilarating but stealth is rewarding. A lot of variety on how you approach a map, with most having many possible entrances. Music is varied and vibrant. Everything from Run the Jewels to Miles Davis can be listened to on the radio. Even the game's own score surprised me. Most cyberpunk themed games would have a cheesy synthwave soundtrack slapped on but CP2077's soundtrack is more expressive and not obsessed with reminding you the 80s happened. Character customization, while not as robust as say Elden Ring or Skyrim, still allows you to add a lot of unique personality to your character. Worldbuilding is very in-depth. characters have their own lingo, the world has its own history, and many of the characters you meet introduce some deep theme. For instance, you may find yourself saving a buddhist monk that has been forced to undergo cybernetic augmentation, or driving someone to the doctor after a... phallic enhancement goes horribly wrong. Where the game falls short: The huge open world isn't very consistent with content. Some areas have millions of things to do and others are empty. It gives you 3 origin stories to choose from, but your choice doesn't change anything significant. There are some dialog options unique to each, but none that affect the course of the story. Would be cool for your choice of origin to have more impact. Game breaking glitches have been fixed, but many immersion breaking bugs remain. It kills any seriousness in the story when characters are T posing during cutscenes.
