I wanted to like this game. The graphics are incredible, the ideas and themes are new and fresh, and the story seemed to be awesome; but the more time I spent with the game the more it's flaws shined through.
Don't be mistaken by plot synopsis' V is not the main character of this game, Night City is the main character and was the main focus of the developers. So much time and energy was ovbiously poured into making the city feel like a living breathing place with history and lore. Now that I've finished its become obvious that the majority of the time and energy put into this game was here, on the city itself, everything else was secondary.
The bugs are constant and varied. This game needed MONTHS of development just to fix the hundreds of bugs that it contains, many runing missions and forcing you to retrack to previous saves.
My biggest complaint lies with the main story. I haven't been this dissappointed with a story since the Mass Effect 3 debacle, and I would argue that the story offered here, and its conclusion are marginally worse. The entierty of Act 1 is prologue, the Title rolls at the very end of Act 1. 90% of the game takes place in Act 2, with the bulk of your time in this phase of the main quest being focused on interactions with one character in particular. In this phase the bulk of your time with the game will be side quests. The Main missions burn by so fast that by the time I reached endgame I was stunned by the lack of content, and meaningful story develpment in that small bit of content. As for the ending... I was stunned by how terrible it was. It felt like the writers literally gave up and had interns finish the story for them. The Witcher 3 was 10x better and obviously written by better people.
I wanted to love this game, and there are a lot of things to enjoy here, specifically the city and side missions, but this game is half-baked at best. Needed months, maybe years of story development and technical tweaking.
