The game just flat out lags and glitches on my GTX 1050Ti. Can't even get a constant 30FPS on low settings + 900p. Very disappointed. CDPR needs to optimize for better performance for us people with mid end & low end PCs.
This is a spanish proverb, the one on the title, to illustrate that no matter how shiny is your gun, if it's rusty on the inside, then it will never be an efficient weapon.
Cyberpunk is a tremendous masterpice, more ambitious than it's inception era standards, that specially stands out where it shouldn't: technically so advanced (or is it badly optimized?) that present technology cannot satisfy users demands, furthermore insufficient in its depths of ambition:
- Pedestrians that you cannot interact with far beyond a simple tagline: "Hey you, do I know you? Get lost!"
- Thousands of closed doors that cannot be hacked nor force. Even Deus Ex was more ambitious than Cyberpunk in its own terms: not many doors to open, but all of them where breachable...You cannot say the same about this game.
- In summary Night City is crowded but prominently dead, which is the worst feeling you can have on a state of the art sandbox like this one.
Buy it, play it, get amazed, but I must warn you: Cyberpunk is like the best steak you could eat, with that isourmontable feeling that it was 5min close to be the way you tasted it in your brain.
Ah, I forget the most important thing: You'll need a 1.500€ computer to play it as you you deserve, and you will not even have everything on ULTRA, so be sure to meet that requirement before purchasing it.
Story is good, gameplay is fun, great level/skill system.
Bugs everywhere. Floating items, loot impossible to retrieve as it falls through the floor or dissapears. Widescreen randomly drops to 16:9 with black bars for no reason (nothing to do with cutscenes.) Black screen, no video coming out of 'braindances.' If this was an actual, complete, finished game at launch, instead of a buggy beta, it would be a 5 star review. However, the game as payed for and played was a buggy mess.
The game was running fine on medium on my 1060 until the 1.04 patch, now it can barely run at all. I love this game so far, I really do, but it's unplayable for me right now.
Pros:
- The city is beautiful. Do not forget to look up while you play, the buildings are incredibles.
- The fighting is fun. I'm having far more fun here than in Witcher 3
- The music is great.
- Some main and side quests are great.
- Great dialog system. You can move, the characters feel alives (subtle movements, great voice acting).
Cons:
- Lots of bugs. Big problem as it broke the immersion, which is an important part of the game.
Can be fixed though.
- The AI is bad. Cops will get agressive for no reason, pedestrians are stupid, drivers yells at you when they hit something unrelated to you, ennemies tends to stay in place which make it easy to go around them in fights. Patches might help.
- Infiltration is uninteresting. You cannot really play a whole mission stealth because of the AI and the level design isn't great. We're miles from modern Deus Ex games here.
- The game is too stimulating. There are things happening all the time, everywhere. There are ads with sex references everywhere, which do not help (yes they did it on purpose, but I think it is poorly done and break the immersion). It's a big problem for me because, as I said, the city is beautiful. I would like to be able to relax walking/driving into the city (as I did in Witcher3/RDR2/GTAV/AC).
- Driving is a little rough. It's not bad, but vehicles tend to be a little too stiff and other drivers adapt poorly to uncommon situations. Once again, something which breaks the immersion.
- No real choices in most quests. It was something I loved in Witcher 3.
I'm having a lot of fun in the game, but clearly not as much as when I was playing Witcher 3 (it was in 2017 so a lot of patches after its realease). I think the game will be far more pleasant when bugs will be fixed. I really hope the IA will be improved, it would really help the game. Unfortunatly, I think a lot of problems cannot be resolved easily. It's a rough diamond which will be more polished, but I think it will stay a rough diamond.
