Control is one of those action games that once you get in, is hard to get out...! Very intresting world with its own mistery tweaks. The story keeps you intrested and the gameplay is awesome.
Replaying this after playing Alan Wake 2 was a delight, as there are so many similar things, from style, characters, references, to even missions.
The combat and the wierdness are the standouts. Early game can be a bit rough before you get some mad skillz like dashing and flying, but if anything frustrates you there are some great adjustable cheats like curbing dmg received and such.(I wish every game had this level of adjustment, sometimes you just want something slightly easier than normal mode but not full EZ story mode)
Not-so-great is the map, mainly because it doesn't account for what floor you're on. Wouldn't be as annoying if the enemies didn't respawn so much. Also not a fan of save points, but that's more a me thing. It can also be very dark, which often fits the mood but can be annoying if you're just trying to go anywhere.(looking at you, Foundation cave)
There's a ton of secret areas and areas that open up when you gain more access.(remember you can fly, so they can be WELL hidden)
There's one crash that's never been fixed, which is the Anchor boss fight with the clocks. For me(AMD CPU and GPU, W10) it seemed like the best solution was before battle: Open task mgr, right-click Control_DX12.exe, set affinity to CPUs 0,1,2,3 only. This seemed to work for awhile, but just to get through it quicker put one-hit-kill cheat on in the game menu so the boss dies immediately.
There's also a Hex-editor way to add the PS4 DLC on the PCWIKI.(dat Astral Dive Suit look goood on her)
This game is fantastic!
Here is a list of stuff that is good:
+Aesthetic is fantastic.
+Worldbuilding amazing.
+Voice acting is well done.
+Game play is fun.
+Doesn't feel too linear and doesn't make you feel lost in the world.
+Graphics are good.
+Mixing in film for videos is done in a thematic way.
Somethings that could have been better:
-Movement can feel a little light and axis heavy at times.
-You can crouch behind cover, the game encourages you too at time, but a take cover game mechanic could have been really useful. Crouching behind a low wall while being shot at, and not being able to aim over the wall and shoot dudes is a strange choice.
I had started playing this a couple of years ago but put it down and left it alone for a while. Got it again for free on Twitch via Prime lootcrate and decided to give it a go again, because the atmosphere and storyline were so unlike anything else any AAA title has ever really brought to mainstream gaming. At the time of originally playing, I had just gone through Twin Peaks and, I must say, this scratches the same kind of itch that David Lynch left. The game gives out enough story points bit by bit and maintains the eerieness as you play. The questionable nature about the entire situation Jesse finds herself in is reawlly the driving force in keeping you invested in whatever the hell is going on at the FBC.
Incredible concept, fantastic, weird, wonderful story, and excellent combat mechanics. If you're interested in paranormal/paranatural/surrealist themes in any capacity, then 100% play this game when you get the opportunity.
I liked the game.
I played it through, having skipped reading the files because It was a little to David Lynch for me to start.
then I got a handle on the game and restarted the game this time I understood what the files were talking about I was connecting dots I was having a fun time but the saved data from the previous playthrough prevented from from prgressing through the game.
I tried working on this with Reddit suggestions but as of yet unable to get through the game as I can't get one of the OoP.
It is pretty and combat is okay and the right level of horror, twin peaks ish lore that I like in a game so I am sad I can't complete the game. I gave it three stars, probably I would have given it 5 if I had beenable to play it all the way through.
