A surprisingly gripping game
This is one of those games that I've owned for a while and tried to play a few times but couldn't get into it due mainly to how weird it is. But after being stuck for inspiration on what to play next I decided to give it another go. Yeah it's weird, yeah you are in a single building but once it opens up it definitely doesn't feel like a single building. The environments are stunning and once you start getting unlocking the powers things get fun. Floating around ripping chunks of concrete out of the walls or hoisting bits of furniture above your head and pulverising enemies is insanely good fun. The controls are smooth as butter and the storyline is good, not quite my cup of tea, but still enjoyable. The characters you encounter are well designed and have great dialogue, again very weird but interesting. I never liked the Alan Wake games because of the weirdness and this is very much like that from an abstract story point of view. But the gameplay was so much fun and the environments we extremely fun to explore. The biggest let down for me was the ending, it was predictable and explained nothing, but then again I gave up on the story about a third of the way in, so your mileage may vary.
