Have tried this game a few times, on different platforms.
It's one of those games that's weird for the sake of being weird.
Random, disjointed story beats (if they're even that) happening, with disembodied voices saying things that make no sense.
The writing comes across like someone's attempt at how they think "artsy and weird" is supposed to be written.
Jumps back and forth between weird/random stuff happening and shooting...
Feels forced and pretentious right out of the gate.
Bought it based on some positive reviews. What a waste of money. 90min into the game and you're still not sure what's the story. Very hard on default settings - I get killed in almost any fight. Frustrating. Ugly GFX. 1/10 do not recommend.
A nonsensical story, unfair and far too frequent battles, and sometimes far too remote control points destroy this game, which actually could have been quite good.
In fact, this game offers some novelties in game design, but unfortunately only to be destroyed by the worst game sins in the industry.
There may be gamers who believe that a game is only a game when there are tough fights and countless boss battles - I think these are the poorest stylistic devices there is, so the game can absolutely not be recommended.
Not much better than Quantum Break - game still is a technical mess
First of all let me say that I really adore the old Max Payne games and Alan Wake. Fantastic games that are true classics nowadays. But I think that with Quantum Break, Remedy Remedy lost its inspiration. Control is more like Quantum Break, no so much like the other games mentioned before. The game is a technical disaster (like Quantum Break was in 2016!), the graphics are just mediocre, the loading times are MUCH TOO LONG even with SDD (!) and after playing some time I got annoying texture popups all the time (GTX 1660 TI). The gameplay itself is okay at first but gets boring very fast, the difficulty level is rather high (gets very annoying when you have to walk to the boss several times) and who thought that it would be a good idea to read boring text files all the time that interrupt gameplay? Hated that back then in Quantum Break as well. Text files are not a good way to deliver story in a fast paced ACTION GAME (!). Max Payne and Alan Wake only had TV shows and radio shows, that was fine. I can´t really recommend this game. It´s just overrated and still a technical mess.
