The easiest mode is 'HARD'!

BUTCHER is a fast-paced 2D shooter game and a blood-soaked love letter to the early 90s. As a cyborg programmed to eradicate the last remains of humanity, your sole purpose is to well... annihilate anything that moves.

So grab your weapon of choice (from chainsaw, through shotgun, to grenade launcher) and kill your way through underground hideouts, post-apocalyptic cities, jungles and more. And if you're feeling creative, there are plenty other ways of ending your enemies' misery - hooks, lava pits, saws... no death will ever be the same.

If kicking corpses into a lava pit and adorning walls with blood is your idea of a good time, BUTCHER is THE game for you.
  • Ultra-violent uncompromising carnage in the spirit of Doom and Quake (chainsaw included)
  • Skill-based gameplay mechanics
  • Release your inner artist, paint the walls with (permanent) blood (up to 4 million pixels available to be painted per level)
  • Use the environment (saws, hooks, lava pits, animals and other) to brutally dispose of your enemies
  • Choose from an array of weapons (featuring classics like chainsaw, railgun and the deadly grenade launcher)
  • Adorn more than 20 levels with the insides of your enemies
  • Soak in the dark atmosphere reinforced by a wicked, heavy soundtrack (while you kick corpses around)

Almost Botched on Linux Mint

Butcher for Linux loses a point for botched controller support. Played on Linux Mint 17.3 64 bit. PROS: + Intense and challenging gameplay. + Clever, almost puzzle-like, level design. + Both the pixel art and gritty look lend to the dark cyberpunk atmosphere of Butcher. + Modest hardware requirements. CONS: - Poorly executed gamepad* controls damn near ruin the game. - No multiplayer, yet. *Attempted to play Butcher with a Logitech F310 set to XInput. There was NO fire button recognition. When switching back to keyboard & mouse input, the m/k inputs were not recognized by the game. When uninstalling then reinstalling, m/k problem persisted. There is no excuse for this.

literally Painfully Ugly

I think I received the game for free, which is its one saving grace. The graphics are a bland of grey/metallic grey and red for blood. The models for the characters are probably less tahn 6x6 pixels wide, which makes them look like little grey spots. The player and enemies have the same color, which blends with the background, which makes locating the enemies a stranious proces on both eyes and mind, which will leave you tired quite fast. As far as the difficulty is concerned, it is "bullshit difficulty". You kill everyone in the room, go next to a button and then, a bunch of enemies spawn from nowehre and start shooting at you. If you do not have prior knolwedge of this happening, you die. Even when you have prior knowledge of this, you will still die a lot. Your ammon runs out fast and your chainsaw is next to useless. Image if in a game like DOOM, or Serious Sam the chainsaw did not quickly dispose of enemies. This is the feeling the game leaves you with. You run out of ammo, whip out the chainsaw and instead of dismembering everyone infront of you, you get to tickle someone for a second while everyone else from their squad turns you into tomato paste. It is not the power fantasy that the demo promised and I feel this is where people feel most disappointed with it. I am not one to back from violent or gory games, but this is just not the game for me.

Edgelord-y difficulty and posturing with it, sprites so small and graphics so dark and muddy you can barely tell what's going on, and whenever you fire a gun, the screen vibrates for some reason (more than any FIRST person shooter I've ever played) which is irritating and makes it even harder to tell what's happening. Just play the games that this game thinks it's emulating. To the (pixelated) scrapyard.

Just finished the demo

Wow, just finished the demo and was disapointing it was so short and got to wait a long time till the final version was finnished. I was wrong, tonight after work, after I bought the game..... it's bloodfest time >:-) Awesome game.
