Attack of the killer clowns?

There is a reason this is one of the most acclaimed point and click adventures of all time. Memorable characters, beautiful 2D artwork and animations, top shelf voice acting (and lots of it) and a well written story with a good dose of humour thrown in. The puzzles are fairly light and mostly logical, sometimes relying on dialogue to solve. This is good as it keeps the player progressing through the story at a decent pace, visiting new locations around the globe and meeting the cast of wacky characters. I'm honestly not that a hardcore P&C player, but I rate this classic as a must play. It has stood the test of time well and is stil a great experience. Pro tip - this GOG version contains both the inferior Directors Cut, and the superior original version. Do yourself a favour and start with the original. The DC version adds an uneeded (and in all honesty rather boring) Nico story, removes all the hunting for clues, and also removes content including deaths and has a more cumbersome inventory system. Very nice (and not short) adventure

I've heard a lot about this game, it was particularly famous back in the 90's. I like the story, the music, the characters, nice puzzles, it's like a cartoon but with mature contents and no violence/offese etc. The cutsceens have not aged well, the rest is still enjoyable. I liked Nico's background.

Good, But Far From an Epic

Beautiful graphics, great sound, but it feels a little watered down even thought I have no experience with the original version. The "casual" puzzles are OK, but most of the problems are maybe too easy. You can easily go from to start to finish just by trying all the (limited) options. And the end of the game is pretty automatic, with very limited interaction. Regardless of these shortcomings, I still enjoyed playing this game. If you have little or no experience with adventures and want to try this genre, this is a very good option.

SUCH A GREAT GAME

I was skeptical of buying this after playing the demo of director's cut until i saw that the original was also included. After going through some things to get it to save and restore correctly, i was quickly drawn into the game. it was so much fun to play! i loved the characters, the voice acting, the plot, and the fact that you died a couple of times if you weren't careful! after playing the original all the way through first, the face-lift given to this game does not do it justice. Sure it's all nice and shiny, it's easier to find stuff like what you need to look at and get to the menu but i rather do it the hard way then play this update any day. i really did not care for the voices and updated dialogue either. some things that you used to be able to click on are no longer an option which makes the game too easy in terms of figuring out what you need to be looking at. i am so very glad i waited and bought the game here instead of somewhere else that did not offer the original! thanks GOG!

Play Gabriel Knight instead

I played a lots of adventure games of the golden age. Loom, Maniac Mansion, Monkey Island, King's Quest, you name it. When Broken Sword was released, I kinda hoped to find the great Gabriel Knight's saga successor. Boy was I disappointed. First of all, this is a "tourist game": absolutely no historical accuracy. Paris looks like a village build around the Eiffel Tower, french policemen are dressed like how they used to in the second half of the XIXth century, Ireland is just a pub surrounded by green pastures... Did you just say "cliché"? Even worse, the whole intrigue about the templars doesn't even make sense, you never really get to know what they attempt to do (take off the world, obviously, much like the purple tentacle in Day of the Tentacle) but you don't know why or even how. Now, the game is cute and very colourful. A pop-corn game, but only play it if you have nothing better to do.
