Bloodstained has a lot of weapons, gear and abilities, and really fun methods of improving and customizing the way they work together.
The controls are tight, and the abilities are diverse. The pacing of the game feels excellent, and it does a good job of allowing for speed runs or more cautious exploration.
I'll be the first to admit that I did't particularly love the 3D graphics, the character designs, and other aspects of the game - but after having played the game, I find the experience is far greater than the sum of its parts.
If you like metrovania games, this one is highly recommended.
Bloodstained is a non-vampire related story but filled with demons and alchemists. It plays a lot like the modern Castlevania games and looks stunning on PC. I've been really wowed by the art, level design, characters, and story. Normally I don't buy games at full price... ever. But this game is definitely worth it. I think the shards for power ups is a good idea but I haven't gotten everything figured out yet. Fun game, lots of different kinds of weapons, and nice exploration.
If you enjoyed any of the metriodvania Castlevania's- especially SotN or Laiment- you will love this games's gameplay. It it isn't perfect though. I've stopped counting how many times this game has crashed on me, or times when I was unable to retrieve an item drop because of technical issues. Be ready to have a little bit of patience for this game.
Also, make sure to eat well.
I love it! To be honest with you I wasn't quite sure I was going to like but it's getting better and better!. Customization is great. lots of weapons, items & armor to experiment with. Soundtrack it's outstanding and meaningful. What can I say? This is what a good game is supposed to be!
Having recently fallen in love with the Metriodvania genre due to games like Hollow Knight and the Messenger, I have never played either of the originators, Metroid or Castlevania. I went into this game with high hopes and was not disappointed. The gameplay is smooth and responsive, the combat has a ton of variety. The boss battles are great, rounded out by a fun soundtrack. My biggest complaint is that unlike Hollow Knight and the Messenger, exploration feels like the weakest part of this game. The castle feels assembled rather than a natural environment with interesting areas to explore or see. I found myself saying "oh cool a Lava area," rather than inquiring why is this lava pit down here or why does this castle have this area.
That being said, having another fun Metroidvania game on GOG is a blessing for me and I plan on continuing into NG+ once I round out the very intensive 100% completion. The game is clearly made for fans of both previous fans of Castlevania and a new round of fans for Bloodstained. I eagerly look forward to the additional characters coming to this game.
