A dark corruption scandal in the heart of the New York City's underworld for charismatic detective John Blacksad!
The 50s, New York City: Joe Dunn, owner of a boxing club, is found dead.
Meanwhile, rising star Bobby Yale, due to take to the ring for the most important fight of his career, has mysteriously disappeared.
Sonia Dunn, Joe’s daughter, takes over the gym and must deal with its financial woes. She hires private detective John Blacksad to investigate Yale’s disappearance. This sinister case will take our investigator to the darkest, most dismal depths of New York.
With its anthropomorphic characters and its incredible 1950s feel, BLACKSAD: Under the Skin promises all the eerily dark adventure of a detective novel, just like the eponymous comic book series.
Conduct the investigation in your own way. Make use of your feline senses as you hunt for new clues. Make decisions on behalf of Blacksad and influence the outcome of the case.
Features:
An official and all-new story for BLACKSAD, set in the comic book series’ unique world, perfectly recreated for gamers.
An investigative narrative game with gameplay combining investigations, puzzles, quick time events (QTE) and multiple-choice dialog.
Choices that directly influence the development of the character and the story's ending.
More than 30 characters, including new faces and old favorites, each with their own story.
An immersive world with a jazz soundtrack to rival the very best of Hollywood’s film noir.
Fans of adventure games will love its gameplay and narration while fans of the comic book series will be thrilled to rediscover the characters and graphic style of this unique world.
I give it 4 stars cause the controls are clunky and slow. Its still sortof buggy. Overall i loved the story the grittyness and how bloody, and dark the game is. The death scene are great too.
Firstly, I'll say I thoroughly enjoyed the story and characters, especially Blacksad; I'll definitely check out the comics. There are plenty of twists and turns, and uncovering them is quite satisfying and accomplishes the detective fantasy everyone is hoping for when purchasing these kind of games. As a matter of fact, it's a blend of TellTale's formula and Frogware's latest Sherlock Holmes games, even borrowing the deduction system of the latter to an extent. So it's not the most original of gameplay systems, but I surely enjoyed it as a fan of the aforementioned experiences.
My main gripes are with the jankiness that could be expected from AA games from a couple of years ago: stiff animations, off-sync dialogues, and plenty of bugs; the most egregious one being QTEs, that require button mashing, becoming impossible when playing on a monitor with a higher refresh rate than 60, with the only fix being an external solution such as RTSS in order to lock fps.
If I'm giving 4 stars instead of the 3 or lower that it deserves due to those issues, it is because the forgivable ones can be expected considering the budget, and mainly due to the overall detective experience being genuinely recommendable in my book. The story won't change your life, but if you are a fan of the vibe and narrative games, it will give you an immersive and compelling time.
very interesting game with a movie feeling to it. gameplay is clumsy on pc sometimes though, and time to decide is utterly short. quite a long and well built story, and yet, the ending possibilities kind of felt like meh to me. like if they didn't work the endings out as well as the other parts of the story.
Good point and click style game, abit done with gamepad. The only downside to this game I can find is the character gets stuck behind things. The controls do feel a little wooden and not as responsive as I feel it should be. Perhaps I should play it with a mouse, but I do like to stream to my iPad via Moonlight so a mouse isn't always an option. Anyway, good story. Is mainly a point and click type game, but then has dramactic moments, a bit like The Walking Dead games. In fact, its very like those Walking dead games, so if you like those, chances are you like this style of game.
