I've played it for the first time and, gotta say, the game still holds up. The narrative and the ambience are unique, the options that the game gives the player are also worth noticing. I just didn't like how badly placed were the Big Daddies, a special and iconic type of enemy that the game throws you out of nowhere.
I played the game on Linux using Lutris with Wine and ran into some problems.
When I first loaded up the game the textures looked really bad and pixelated. The solution was to turn off E-sync and F-sync. In Lutris right click on the game -> Configure -> Runnner option -> Turn off Esync and Fsync.
Every time I manually saved the game it registerd a left click which meant that I shot a bullet with wathever gun I had in my hands. So switch to the wrench before saving.
The game only crashed once in almost 14 hours.
The story was great and well put together. It explores themes in depth if you have the patience to listen to the prerecorded tapes and explore the world a little.
The combat style first in unfamiliar but easy to learn.
The setting, voice acting, and world building are really well done. The characters feel alive and Andrew Ryan is among the best villains I have ever seen and I would have liked to see more of him.
All in all, a buggy mess of a Masterpiece.
I had about 3.5 hours in the game, so I thought the experience would be positive, allowing reminiscence of good times playing this on Xbox 360. Opening the map while in the medical facility froze the game. Not worth it to play unstable games in this day and age.
Unfortunately, it doesn't hold up well today. The story is interesting, but the game doesn’t do much to tell it effectively like relying on radio messages while you're trying to focus on gameplay which I really hate especially during combat. The gameplay starts off strong considering its era, but it quickly becomes repetitive and doesn't evolve add anything much throughout the playthrough. Probably the worst part is that it's too long for its own good I was begging for it to end for at least the last five hours. I had heard great things about this series but sadly the first entry didn’t do it for me. I hope the sequels are better.
