Received this game as a christmas gift on PS2 as a child, along with Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, and Final Fantasy 10. took me a solid minute to play it, but when I did it ended up being one of my favorite games of all time. Over a decade ago, a sequel (which was teased at the end of this game) was announced in Game informer but has failed to materilize, sadly we may never get to see the conclusion of the story, but if you like charming action games with memorable characteres, fun minigames, puzzles and rudimentary stealth mechanics that both children and adults can enjoy this is the game for you.
Feels properly written, programmed, and crafted to perfection. Takes me back to early 2000's console gaming and the kind of game you'd talk to your mates about
I loved the game! It's a short and sweet action-adventure platformer that has some basic stealth sections.
Before I get into why I love it, I'm going to start with the negatives just to get it out of the way:
- I would've gave it 5 stars if I hadn't had to troubleshoot the game to get it working on Windows 10.
[If anyone has audio sync issues then follow the link at the bottom!]
- You have to fight with the camera (your mouse) in some sections.
- Specifically in Races, my boost acceleration (which would normally stay on) was turning itself off automatically, after a while. But that didn't stop me from getting 1st Place.
I initially tried out the game as I've always heard about how good BG&E is but only played the demo back when it went HD on the PS3. I never played it back in the GC/PS2 era but it feels very nostalgic for me. I do miss the days of 3D platformers and their art direction/story arcs, so this really scratched an itch for me and might do the same for you! For context, I grew up playing Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, Ratchet & Clank, Ty the Tasmanian Tiger & Spyro so I know I would've loved this as a young teen.
The little glimpse that we have on the BG&E world is very charismatic. From the alien music (bangers btw) to the different creatures you come across and of course the characters and story! It all comes together in a heartfelt way that I personally haven't experienced before. It is EXTREMELY charming and I really adored it. It's sad that BG&E 2 is in development hell or is probably going to be cancelled if it hasn't been already.
Like previously mentioned, the gameplay consists of basic platforming, basic puzzles/problem solving, basic but somewhat satisfying combat, stealth and vehicular sections.
More side missions and upgrades would've been lovely but it's understandable for a story focused game from the early 2000's.

Audio Sync Issue Solve: gog.com/forum/beyond_good_and_evil/updated_2020_guide_for_audio_cutscene_desync_fix
Beyond Good and Evil is wonderful in a way that is hard to explain in words.
I'll start off by saying that this isn't the best port, so you'll likely have to make some changes in the installation settings next to the play button on GOG.
This game is filled with soul and inspiration in everything it does, with smooth, simple gameplay, engaging minigames, and fun twists on classic tropes. There are a lot of great examples of the narrative changing the gameplay, which is a great way to engage the player in the story. With some patience working out some potential bugs, and unusual controls, I highly recommend giving this a shot.
This was my first playthrough and i am NOT dissapointed. This game have great story, fun dialog and good combat. If you have not played this game it is worth playing. Takes up to 12 hours to complete if you want to see almost everything.
