Good Title

Unlike most of the Mechwarrior series, this is a turn based strategy and puts you in control of 4 mechs at once. So a lot slower pace and deeper strategy. If you're not familiar with Mechwarrior at all this will be a very difficult game as it is a super deep rule set even though the campaign setting even tries to simplify a lot of the equipment and customization to the bare essentials. Even if you know the rules, the game is difficult as you are constantly under pressure to earn money and not loose to many pilots/mechs. I found this all a good challenge and enjoyed it. The story was ok and felt a little like an afterthought but kept me interested. I got about 100 hours out of it so good value for the $30 price tag IMO.

I like this game

It's just kind of all around fun - well-designed. Tactical decisions (positioning, movement, etc.) matter. The graphics are good enough, definitely for the zoomed out view. The sound design is superb. The story is fine, if straight-forward. The full price of 40eur felt like a bit much to me at launch, but with the addition of career mode, maybe it's OK. You will definitely get a lot of hours out of the game. :v I would suggest to try and get it at reduced price with the expansion(s) because it seems like they are using the latter for stuff that should be in the game but didn't fit the budget. I think it's fair. NB: The multiplayer is cross-platform, that's why they use a Paradox account.

Meh

A very 'meh' feeling game, if you can call it that. There is a LOT of waiting, and waiting and more waiting for your turn. The initiative system seems like it more of a suggestion since the enemy ALWAYS get to go first even if you have the same initiative so you then get to wait some more. As for the strategy portion, well there isn't any. The "strategy" consists of lining up and slugging it out. Not even anything as simple as terrain height advantages are in this. Just sad missed opportunity with very limited game play and a whole lot of missing features.

Because Battletech rocks

Having seen most battletech games ever published, as well as most tactical mech games ever published, i can say with certainty that this is by far the best digital version i've ever seen, and not just because of the graphics, but the game mechanics which are amazingly true to the game. it's noteworthy that I have over 130 hours of game play. Pros : -The battle here is much more fluent than the original board game and I've truely enjoyed playing it - but I don't think it's fair to expect faster paced battle. Battle tech is quite a complex game system. you either accept it for what it is or switch to other games, and generally patiance is a good trait to have here. - the graphics are so much better than what we've seen on this franchise before and the terrain is modeled quite well. -It's the original BATTLETECH! which is a pro intself. cons : - Personally, I havn't encountered the technical dificulties i've seen in the other reviews, and to be honest I've only noted one game bug worth mentioning - so my advice is taking care of your savegames. -i was a bit miffed by the relatively small selection of mechs in the game, and missed some of the most iconic mechs the battletech universe has to offer. -i found the maps a bit repetitive when doing missions ouside the main campaign. All in all, I highly recommend it and give it a very rare 5 star review.
