I'm so excited to play a new expansion of Baldur's Gate. It is running beautifully on my not-very-current laptop, I'm enjoying the new characters, and laughing at dialogue (which is a must!). Battles have been a bit easy so far, but there are plenty of difficulty settings to choose from.
Thank you so much to everyone who loved Baldur's Gate enough to put effort into an expansion!
Amber Scott, the writer of this game, says that the original Baldur's Gate is sexist.
Captain Corwin, a major NPC, is a single bisexual mother whose daughter calls you out for mansplaining to her.
There is a transgender NPC.
Etc etc
If that's your sort of thing, then this review should be useless to you.
But for people like me who don't want to financially or morally support the ever more omnipresent liberal lunacy injected in all forms of art, perhaps you should skip this.
The new expansion makes straight white cis male bigots so angry that they feel compelled to spew filth across the internet. I couldn't ask for more in a game!
Like many players of Baldur's Gate, I've been playing IE games for deep into a second decade now, with Baldur's Gate I being my favorite of the lot. Or at least it was until I played/finished Siege of Dragonspear.
The game harkens back to a time when the RPG story element was what sucked you in, and Siege did that for me. From the moment that the opening vignette played to the climax at the end, I was sucked in to the story and emotionally invested in seeing how it would flesh out.
Like many others. music is a centerpiece of my fondest memories, and Sam Hulick hits a homerun in setting the right mood for such.
The NPC': .having new NPC's that story wise, and party contribution wise greatly contribute to the joy of the story really speaks to the character development capabilities of the authors. On this, Siege also delivers, and my only regret will be that most of my parties won't include all of them at the same time! That's okay though...having multiple playthroughs going at the same time is something I'm used to doing on IE games anyway.
Overall, I was heartily looking forward to this games release, and it being a worthy addition to my game collection. On that, Beamdog and their crew delivered in spades. 5-star.
Just to make people aware, this review column has been brigaded by GamerGaters. GoG lets you review games you have not bought so it's a very safe bet that the flood of one-star reviews comes from angry man-babies who have not played the game and don't actually know anything about the game except what they were told to say by reddit or 8chan.
Base your decision to buy (or not) on the reviews from people who have actually played the game.
