Beamdog has proven they can continue the Baldur's Gate story. In doing so, they replicate the antiquated nature of the Baldur's Gate games.

New journey, old friends. I don’t know what possessed Beamdog to make Siege of Dragonspear an expansion to the original game, nor do I know what devil’s pact coerced them into making it thirty-odd hours long. It’s insanity.

Baldur’s Gate: Siege of Dragonspear fills in some of what happens to the Child of Bhaal between saving Baldur’s Gate and saving your soul from Irenicus, and it’s a hoot to revisit this world, using the old D&D rules from the 1990s.
But Siege of Dragonspear hints at more — a studio that’s done with just enhancing older games and ready to carve out a place among the top storytellers in the RPG sector. Beamdog’s first effort at original storytelling is a good start, and I’m excited to see more in the future, even if it’s in the world of Baldur’s Gate.

Love it
Love it. Yes there are some bugs, but just like in the past these will be fixed. Yes, some mods are not working, but this can be fixed to. And what did you expect that. That every modder starts fixing their mod on the spot.

Gamers Gate Downvote Brigade
This is a good continuation of the BG revamping, a much better expansion than Tales of the Sword coast. Ignore the bad reviews just Gamer's Gate being super "ethical" (there is a trans character, you see, and an innocent joke about Gamer's gate, so naturally they have to throw a hysterical fit about it. Ethics in games journalism remember!

A worthy addition to the BG stable
If we can put aside the pointless Internet culture wars for one moment (I am amused by the obviously orchestrated comments below), this is not a bad game by any means. The updated Infinity Engine really shines here; you will be fighting some fairly epic scale battles - dozens of opponents, not just a handful. Some of the mechanisms in game are archaic, as befits 2nd edition AD&D, but if you know your THAC0 from your Saving Throws you'll do just fine. And the game is hard. BG fans will know what to expect. And Minsc and Dynaheir are back (but Branwen isn't...boo). The writing varies from adequate to fine. It's not a masterpiece, but it's fun. Recommended.
