Baldurs Gate 3 is a lot of fun, it doesn't use Infinity Engine so it wont play like the originals but its still a great game if you like D&D. So far I am enjoying the game regardless of the dialog bugs. Worth the price if you like D&D and Baldurs Gate games.
First let me state, I have both D:OS 1 and 2. That being said, I think it is really unfair and short sighted for other commenters to go on about this just being D:OS 3. It is not. Does it have a lot of game play similarities? Yes. But I mean, it is the studio that MADE D:OS so I don't hold that against them.
Honestly, I got this game like 5 days ago, and I am already 30+ hours in, on my second play through. I was pretty hesitant to buy the game, because I made the mistake of reading all these reviews, and although I enjoyed D:OS, I wanted a different story, and slightly refined gameplay. This has that.
Then you have the D&D 5e purists, that nitpick every little difference. This is a RPG game, not a tabletop. There will be difference. But what I enjoyed was the back story regarding D&D mythos that I easily recognized from my youth.
So here it is, the game is beautiful, graphics stunning. The character models are very nice, and great emotional range on NPCs and companions during your cinematics. The quests are cool, the cinematics are beautiful. There are some little things I hope get fine tuned, but overall I am really enjoying it, and chomping at the bit to see more content, and where the companion stories go.
There is already a great modding community for this game, so make sure to check that out. The game plays pretty clean, I think in 30+ hours I have had 2 crashes. There IS a couple cinematic bugs for the PC (especially with the dream sequences) but I am sure that will be fixed in patch 4.
The only thing that bothers me, is after playing the content in alpha (which admittedly is larger than I expected). I just really....really don't want to wait a year or more for the full game. But so is life.
In closing, don't let the "It's D:OS 3, not BG" people, or the "It's not true 5e GRRRR" people in the comments ruin it for you. If you like a good RPG game, this really is worth the investment in my opinion.
I have been playing BG3 since its EA release and boi did they improve. Yes it is still buggy and weird stuff CAN happen but my personal experience is still pretty solid and most bugs are more like "LOL DID YOU SEE THAT?", which partially kills the immersion.
I want to recommend this game to players that have a similar mindset to mine. I like to play this game not just as a game, but more like an adventure that I am actually a part of. I roleplay all characters, I think about how my CHARACTER should act and not how I want to act and it works wonderful.
That's the part where I want to point out that this game, at least for me, does NOT feel anything like the previous games Divinity OS and OS2. I tried roleplaying in the Divinity games, but it didn't work as intended, which often killed the immersion for me (which is why I mostly played Divinity OS as ME). Divinity often wanted you to fight most people for XP.
I love interacting with all persons in this game. The voice acting, the ... well janky, but still nice cutscene-like conversations got my heart pounding in stressful situations where I NEEDED to pass my ability check. And if that's not the case - so be it, because that's part of THAT specific adventure. Rolling dice is one core of the fun for me, just take the outcome, since otherwise it's just manipulating the adventure.
BG3 rewards you for roleplaying at this point and for me it works out. I mostly play my characters as they are intended to be played and get inspiration points for that, those can be used to re-roll a failed skill check. Avoiding combat and good roleplaying is also rewarded with XP, which makes me NOT kill everyone to continue the storyline.
Every single time I start an adventure it is a completely different experience.
I like the movement and fighting mechanics a lot, it is well balanced and for me it feels like the experience I have been looking for.
Why is there a character limit I want to say thank you to Larian Studios.
Buy Game.
Bought the game and was looking forward to play. Then the big disappointment the game does not start.
Even the lari launcher doesnt work. Im really pissed.
If I didn't have to work and meet friends, I would spend all my time in front of this masterpiece.
This is what a good RPG should look like. Larian Games - Respect!
