This is not that good
I love the Amnesia series, but ever since The Dark Descent, Frictional games doesn't seem to get right balance of horror anymore (excluding Soma, which is amazing!). The thing here is, there is too much horror. And yes, that is a bad thing. You die so often, that the monster stops being scary and becomes annoying. And those stupid rats with their headlight eyes totally ruin the atmosphere... I really wanted to love this, but I can't. The game is actively working against itself, undermining itself. There should have been more puzzles and discovery. The game is at it spookiest when the monster isn't seen, but heard growling behind the walls. Another thing that sucks is that the monster cannot be predicted in most instances. There is no scanner like in Alien Isolation that messes with your anxiety. Nope. There it suddenly is, and bam your run in ruined. This game has a great start, and can genuinely scare you at first. But after a while, it become a chore, and the monster a bore. And the weird roguelite kinda gameplay loop just doesn't fit really well. The Dark Descent > Rebirth > A Machine For Pigs > The Bunker

Great claustrophobic horror
It's just you and the monster in the tunnels and small rooms of the bunker. As usual for an Amnesia game, you wake up alone, something horrific happened to the inhabitants of the bunker, and you remember nothing. Take your noisy rechargeable flaslight and your revolver that you never seem to have enough bullets for, and see how far you get before the monster bites your face off.

Atmospheric Horror
Just finished this game on PS5 and it did not disappoint, and wanted to be able to play on pc. The setting is perfect for a horror setting with the technology of the first world war not being the most reliable and really loud like your pocket torch that keeps the game tense. When is the fuel going to run out in the generator? Have I got somewhere to hide if I set a trap off? How am I going to get through this door, loud with a grenade or brick, or find the key? This game keeps you on your toes without out staying it's welcome unlike Alien: Isolation. With this and Conscript, they make a perfect pair of games that truly show the real horror of WW1 setting.

A successful experiment
If I have to rate Amnesia: The Bunker as part of the series, I'd say it's 4/5 because of the prioritizing of gameplay instead of plot; but I won't do it, since the devs properly inform us that this title is experimental and puts focus on other elements. So, these 5 stars are for the game standing on its own (with a caveat). - The atmosphere is top notch - we can feel the tension of being the last person alive left in this massive underground complex with an apex hunter that has killed dozens of our friends. The environmental storytelling, combined with the notes found throughout the location, makes this a rather personal experience. - The sound design is fantastic - from the ambience of different parts of the bunker to the explosions, dialogues, and the monster in its different states, each move or action is immersive due to the audio and physical effects. - Engaging, tense, dynamic game mechanics - I constantly had to scavenge for resources, even at the end of the game. Each trip for more resources introduces risks - from losing yourself in a maze of booby-trapped tunnels to alerting the monster that dinner is ready next to its hole, you're constantly on edge (bonus points for the ability to accidentally crash the serenity at some point by tripping on a chair or other piece of furniture). - Graphically supreme & technically secure - top-notch lighting system, mostly fluid animations, and minimal amount of bugs and glitches in my playthrough. I have only one serious problem with the game, and its the ending. The last 15 minutes of the game were, personally, very frustrating due to the trial & error nature of that section. That, combined with the abrupt ending without a strong, relevant closure to the story, leaves a sour taste for, arguably, the most important moment. Haven't noticed others sharing this problem + it may have been due to time or budget constraints, which is why I won't detract a star, but I find it worth mentioning. Successful experiment overall.
