YOU STAND ALONE

I own this game on Steam thanks to Oshryman but I will also buy it here eventually and couldn't help but to transcribe the review of this game here so I can help a little to convince people to buy it. As an old gamer I can't help but feel my eyes a little wet seeing and playing this new wave of Ol School Shooters we're having these times. New Blood Int are pointing themselves not only as a good lovers of this games but well developers and producers of games in general. This game is frantic, rapid and feel heavy and magic at the same time. Abandon yourself into this marvelous world. Doesn't matter if you are an ol gamer like me who lived the golden era of FPS or just came in to see what everyone is talking about. You will never escape again. P.S.: A rewiew without the word HERETIC... oh, wait!.

Pure Action Joyride

This game instantly captures your attention will amazing movement. Silky-smooth, responsive and dashingly fast. Visuals are great! Great balance of retro low-poly and attention to details. Audio is really good and I already regret not buying the version with the soundtrack. Dear GOG, let us buy the soundtrack separately, please! :) Level design is what you'd expect from good old-school games: balanced, simple yet sophisticated. The 'exploration' hits all the right buttons! Finding a small hidden area and hearing the acknowledging sound is pure dopamine! :) Weapons, enemies, all feel so damn great. The only thing I slightly dislike so far are the in-game fonts, they hard to read, but you won't do much reading here, since it's not a text-based RPG, so not much of an issue. Money well spent!

Fantastic artwork and dynamic gameplay

This game is probably best modern thing that you can compare to classics like Heretic / Hexen (closer to Heretic). Unfortunately already bought it on Steam 3 months ago during early-access. Finished 3 episodes so far, all of the them are quite distinct in terms of enemies / play-style and overall dynamics, which is great - game does not get repetitive and boring. Visual art-work is just outstanding, great levels design and detalization. On my machine had a few sound-glitches, but nothing really serious. Game weaponry is various and on 'hard' level game pushes you to choose right tool for the fight, otherwise victory is unlikely. Overall - very nice game, mb not as outstanding as Dusk, but still very decent.

The retro fps you`ve been looking for

Amid Evil does a lot of things right: it is fast without being hectic, and the graphics make it look like a 90s game while being pollished at the same time. I don't have the best sense of direction, but only got lost once. The zones look very distinct although a few cutscenes (like in Duke Nukem 3D) or some narrated text would make it feel a bit more vivid. One thing that could use a bit of tuning is the gunplay: While there are 7 weapons with alternative firemodes, the secondary mode is only available when your soul bar is fully charged and you can't change back or preserve souls onve it is activated. You only need your Axe at the start of a zone and typically want to preserve the very limited ammo for your super weapon. The Planet (Rocket) Launcher has its applications but the projectiles are slow and can hurt yourself. Your blue mana powers either a staff that fires target seeking orbs or a trident that shoots lightning at a high rof that makes enemies explode, but the damage is just too low to justify the ammo drain. With green mana you can fire slow arcs of energy with a saber or use it for the wand which is simply the best general purpose weapon: It is kind of a shotgun with increased range and rate of fire. Since it fires large shards that stick in the opponent you even get a great hit/kill verification that preserves ammo in the long run. Long story short, you are typically only using 3 weaons and either your fire and forget weapon or soul mode in tough situations.

Best New Old Wave FPS

Owned on Steam, This is the game that the good ID would do if they did not have Bethesda behind. Amid Evil it´s Eternal.
