Bought this game on steam. It got banned on steam. Now the devs are stonewalling anybody who bought the game on steam and demand either a refund or the version on GOG for free, since you can't get updates or the promised DLC. And the state in which the game was left is essentially breaking it for 50% of people.
So yeah, just so you know whom you buying from. The game is OK, the devs certainly not, and I'd strongly urge you to reconsider buying from them. And no, I don't care if it's steam's fault or not. Not the point. Their unwillingness to provide information or a sultion however IS the point. Make of that what you will.
There's a lot of story. Just cutscenes after cutscenes. I thought it would ease up after the tutorial-like proloque, but it goes on. It's also interrupts the gameplay with dialogue. There's a lot of it, so if you only care about the tactical gameplay part of this game and not the story, there's going to be a lot of skipping.
From the few video reviews I watched, the gameplay looked deeper and more interesting than it turned out to be. The game just throws monsters randomly at you, and then some scripted events for dramatic effect. So if it looks hopeless it may just be that next turn you're getting an insane army into play for free. Stuff just comes out of nowhere, or for "story reasons". There was Arx blargin against the Moon, so something happened and you blerged the fergendels.
Maybe someone will enjoy this, but very oddly it felt more like a walking simulation, a visual novel, or an interactive experience, than a tactical game. If you're into young adult sci-fi and drama, maybe this is for you.
Also, I almost gave this game only one star, when I found out about this: This game is not finished, it's in fact in early access. More than half of the content is "coming soon" (as of fall 2020).
...a great dislike for randomness.
You get "Story stuff" in the campaign, the ? labeled points on the map and by scouting the area.
If you don't want story/dialogue, there is the Luma Run you can play and then avoid the ? map points and don’t scout. If you try to start that right away, the game will recommend that you play the Prologue first, but you can ignore it, if you wish. I unlocked Mazoon and the other "build" for Ghaldir through the campaign though and I don't know, if that's the only way to get those. I can unlock a different "build" for Amara, by winning the Luma Run on level 2.
? and scouting give you options for permantent changes (for the rest of the Run). Every option you are presented with, shows you what will happen, if you choose it, by hovering over it.
I am a little disappointed about the 4 "coming soon" campaigns (and possibly 6 more minions+magicas) and having to unlock the upgrades for minions/magicas (only one upgrade possible for each; only two options for each available). There are map points with the possibility to upgrade those. Going there and seeing all those blank (locked) options is … a tiny bit frustrating.
I like the lore (arbook=bundle), art and music too.
Each battle won always gives:
1 Arcana Cell (getting a random mix of 3 options out of all base minions/magicas to choose one from, it is possible to reroll the offer once)
Architectus Elements (used for unlocking stuff after the Run is done)
Sarcophagus Charge: Can be used to heal Arx a bit (each 2 charges give 5 HP back), bait Furos Delecti (5 charges; a Furos Delecti will/might be added to the next battle and therefore the potential rewards be doubled), scouting the area (8 charges; Story bit and choice/s (good/bad) effecting the rest of the run).
Each “battle” map point also gives additional reward/s, stated underneath it (upgrade point, remove power (you can skip that, if you don’t want to remove anything), Arcana Cell, increased starting hand, Ultori upgrade point).
Bought this game on steam long ago. The Devs said they would try and rectify the problem with Steam no longer supporting it. They have given no updates and refuse to help out the people who paid for it on steam. Strongly suggest not buying this game and handing money over to unscrupulous developers.
