I haven't played it in a long time, it was alright, but not the greatest game from what I remember.
What I do remember is the music. And since GoG gives you the soundtrack, pretend you're paying $6 for a soundtrack, and getting a free game along with it.
I get so riled up seeing the intro movie again. Everything fits together so perfectly, the mood, the cinematics and the music.
It is awesome!
I definitely would like to see some sort of remaster (or is it called remake?) of this one with improved ai and the such. My 4 stars I must admit are very much due to nostalgia.
That and music is cool, explosions as well. Everything is cool in fact.
Did anyone say lightning tanks? Yes!
As many other interviews have said, it has its fair share or problems and it isnt as polished as other titles of its day.
But man did I play the hell out of it. It first started with the demo...and love and behold the joy I felt on one of my birthdays when my older brother bought this to me.
I have this game on steam, I am considering buying it here so I dont have to fiddle around with a downloaded fix to be able to play it (I think it is needed for steam, dont remember though).
This will always be in my heart, I hope I have the box somewhere. I had my brothers translate the manual for me since it was in english (I am Swedish) and I dreamt myself away.
Also...this is the only game where your "heavy" tank not only has two barrels...but three!!!
And dinosaurs...with riders...shooting lasers. Awesome.
Hahaha, I remember playing the cards without knowing what they did... I found the "Armageddon" card. I had a massive army...the enemy was contained and I played it.
Everything on the whole map got destroyed, except me and my enemys Headquarters/Construction yard (yes, I am a C&C fan as well) and it only had a sliver of life left. Would do it again ^^
The graphics and storyline were and are still great for the time period. However 7th Legion suffers from several problems, the controls are difficult to get you troops to do anything, when moving your troops do not attack or fight anyone who attacks them, when they are attacked they take several seconds to respond, and finally if guarding your base, the enemy can wander around and destroy several buildings before they respond.
The game is one of my favorite RTS I ever played in the late 90's and loved it enough to finish it with both factions. This game is a challenge that cannot be properly described in a few words but I'll do my best.
The pros are: (I like) the graphics and animation, the soundtrack will get you pumped up for a gym workout, resource management is performance-based, orders include stance (agg, def, etc) and the card system is a neat random element that spices up the whole experience.
The story is forgettable but has a nice futuristic twist to it, which I enjoy. Sometimes your soldiers will decide to take a leisurely stroll, for no apparent reason.
The cons are: the path-finding is requires constant micro-management, giving orders is a nightmare, the cut-scenes aged less gracefully than the animation and there's a bit of a steep learning curve involved, especially in missions with limited nos. of units.
Do you consider yourself good at RTS? If yes, then this game is a challenge worth completing. I didn't regret it and remember the experience quite fondly. Strongly recommended especially for the sale price.
It's a bit clunky, harsh on new players, and a quirky card system.
But who doesn't love gigantic mechs dishing out pain?
Not the easiest game to get into, but if you like RTS and up for a challenge, it's worth a try! Had the demo back in the day that i played the shit out of, but never got a hold of the full game, this might change very soon!
