Stop selling games that have DRM. We need more DRM-FREE and inide Games out there . Stop selling half-baked games that have DRM just because it's AAA games. We need old and or Inide games that have NO DRM.

Multiplayer features requiring an online connection is not the same thing as DRM requiring an online connection. Multiplayer features require the internet just by being multiplayer.

@LordCephy What you are referring to by "playing over the home network" (LAN Play / LAN Party) can be done in one of two ways. 1. Design the game engine for Peer-to-Peer multiplayer, where you directly connect to other players' computers instead of a central server. 2. Get the multiplayer server software from the game studio and host it on your LAN.
Both of these are up to the game studio, and not in GOG's control (or any other store).

There used to be a lot more games that did P2P multiplayer. But game studios because standard because of the technical drawbacks P2P, and that centralized hosting provides more consistent player experience and better control over the game for the studio.

I'll accept some amount of DRM for online multi-player features as the game is going to need to connect to something just so that players can meet up online and play with each other... but what would be really awesome is besides having the online option, multiplayer games really should be giving people the option to play multiplayer over a network. It's a lot more reasonable now than it was years ago as there are laptops with dedicated video cards, and people tend to have home networks for their internet. A bunch of people could take their laptops to a friend's house and play multiplayer over the home network.

All single-player games, including single-player mode in a game with online multiplier, should be 100% DRM free. This includes unlocking stuff, even if the stuff in question are just outfits that give the player no benefit besides making their character look fancy. If I want to run around in a single-player game wearing the fancy outfit of fanciness, I shouldn't have to be subjected to online DRM to have it.... Or more actually, I won't because I just won't buy the game in the first place.

Personally I'm not opposed to multiplayer games having some sort of online requirement, but that should be clearly and obviously pointed out in the GoG.com listing for the game.

Single-player game play should never have any online requirement in GoG.com's version, though. Not for any additional features, none. Let leaderboards and MP be options for the player who wishes to use an online connection, never a requirement in a single-player game. And yes, custom tailoring, all available gear, boss fights, and added scenarios are all single player features that should never have DRM added as a requirement.

It really depends on the implementation; but I'm in agreement that games that enforce an always-online requirement, or use subtractive enforcement(features disabled when offline) have no place on GoG. If I did accidentally buy one, I'd be quickly either requesting my money back, or performing a chargeback on my CC. Up to GoG if they'd take action against my account as a result, but GoG is fairly well known at this point for having mostly DRM-free offerings, and I'm surprised to learn than there are so many DRM-enabled games here(I even own a few, though I seldom play them, so I hadn't noticed).

As of now we have Northgard, No Man's Sky, Hitman. All of these games are on GOG and have some sort of partial DRM or Online enforcement. They do NOT belong on this platform.

To ancientbob Games with DRM on GOG:

Absolver - Installs the invasive EAC anti-cheat software even for single player and won't start without it. Boss re-matches are locked behind an online requirement. Boss loot too. As well as some techniques that can be used in offline play but can only be learned online.

Age of Wonders III - cosmetic/name only: it is impossible to create a single player profile. Without connection to the server you have to play as 'Guest'.

Battletech - arguably only cosmetic. Decorations and emblems, that disappear from single-player if one isn't online.

Carcassonne Tiles & Tactics - the 'free' DLC "The Abbot" requires a third party account and registration with the publisher.

Cyberpunk 2077 - Rewards, which are single-player content, require connecting the game to your account via Galaxy. A blue one officially stated this.
Cyberpunk 2077 - Piggyback Interactive Map - requires an online connection to a 3rd party to work.

Dying Light - 'free' weapons and other items that are only available in Singleplayer if you go online.

F.E.A.R. - arguably a bug that stays unfixed. Securom remnants weren't removed and can cause the single player game not to start. See post 41

HITMAN - Game of The Year Edition - ALL the progression (completed challanges, unlocks like weapons, disguises, gadgets and starting points) is only stored online. Also, like the game page admits, some single-player missions (escalation, elusive target) and user created content require an always online connection.

Northgard - solo mode required Galaxy. But according to GOG and the devs, that was a bug and as of 02.04.2021 the solo mode is DRM-free again. ... However, it is still not possible to select opponents for skirmishes in offline mode. You need to be online to select an opponend for offline skirmish mode. Otherwise the opponent is random.

Saintsrow - The Third Remastered - character designs are only stored online. As are keybindings and some other settings.

Stronghold: Warlords - cosmetic. Some Warlord-skins are locked behind an online registration.

Synthetik: Legion Rising - some weapons and other starting gear are locked behind a Galaxy requirement and a newsletter registration.

X4 - Foundations - cosmetic. Online registration is needed for some ship designs, paints and features.

Games with Multiplayer DRM on GOG:

8-Bit-Armies and Hordes

Absolver

Age of Wonders 3: All modes except Hotseat require a unique CD key, which will be located in your game shelf, and an on-line account with Triumph Studios.

Alien Versus Predator Classic 2000

Ancestors Legacy

Aragami

Ashes of the Singularity

Baseball Stars 2

Battletech: third party. you do need a Paradox Account to challenge other players in 1v1 multiplayer matches and to redeem unlock codes for Kickstarter Backer or Pre-Order DLC.

Battlezone 98 Redux:
Carcassonne - Tiles & Tactics: third party account required for online multiplayer.

Craft The World + DLCs

Deathtrap

Descent Underground

Double Dragon Trilogy

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen

Dying Light

Garou: Mark of the Wolves

Gauntlet™ Slayer Edition

Gauntlet™ Slayer Edition - Lilith the Necromancer Pack

Gremlins Inc.

Homeworld® Remastered Collection

Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak

Iron Harvest

Master of Orion 2016

Metal Slug, 2, X and 3

No Man's Sky:

Northgard

Offworld Trading Company

Rise of the Triad (2013)

Phantom Doctrine

Serious Sam's Bogus Detour

Shadow Warrior 2

Shock Troopers

Shock Troopers: 2nd. Squad

STAR WARS™ Battlefront™ II (Classic, 2005) - Also has a Galaxy-free multi-player version (classic installer)

Streets of Rage 4

Stronghold Crusader 2

Synthetic Legion Rising

THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIII GALAXY EDITION

The King of Fighters '98 Ultimate Match Final Edition (unverified)

The Last Blade

Tooth and Tail

Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power

Twinkle Star Sprites

Vikings-Wolves of Midgard

Warhammer 40000 Battlesector (either Galaxy or Slitherine account required for multiplayer)

Wingspan

Witcher Adventure Game, The

Worms W.M.D

Refer to Lifthrasil's dedicated thread.
