Categories in my Collection
why they didn't add this feature yet?
The site already has customizable tags, so why not make a tabbed interface with the tags as tab headings? Similarly, while searching by genre may be possible, it would be much more convenient to be able to switch to a tabbed interface with genres in the tab headings.
Bump! I'd love this - something like Steam Library has, sorting games into custom categories or tags...
Btw, duplicate: www.gog.com/wishlist/site/categorize_our_shelf
Now, when game bundles have been split, my bookshelf really has become hard to navigate (currently 177 games). Would really want multiple shelves, subshelves or similar so I can sort my games. As it is now, I really have problems locating games on the shelf.
I don't think implementing, add tab feature with rename availability will be difficult for your web developers. In that way any users can create own groups or categories and move own collection.
I too would like to be able to add personal categories. Some of mine:
Now Playing
Recent Purchases
Unfinished
Unfinished - High Interest
Finished
Finished - Playing for Completion
I would like to see some like the Steam client has, I want to be able to assign my own categories (i.e. Played, Not Played, Won't Play, Adventure, FPS, etc).
Typing in genres in the game shelf search will bring up the relevant games. When a game is completed it can be manually moved to a different part of the shelf. Also entering words from a game's title will give results. As will most (but not all for some reason) of the designer/publisher names on GOG's list. These genres can (more or less)be found on GOG's front page.
Action
Adventure
Racing
sport
rpg (not Role-playing!)
Shooter
Sim
Strategy
Aside from the official genres - with the exception of ''Indie'' or ''Independent'' (and with plentia Indie games in my collection, if those terms worked there'd be results) - other words that yield quality results are:-
Arcade
build
building (but not builder!)
combat
economic
educational
fantasy
fpp
horror
life
manager
Pinball
platformer
Pointandclick
puzzle
realtime
rts (not realtimestrategy!)
sci-fi
simulation
Strategy RPG
tactic
tactical
turnbased
virtual
Virtual life
No doubt there's many more. My collection is well in excess of 200+ games and this works fine. This is a very effective catagory finder and eliminates any need for other genre filters, be it along the lines of GOG's main page or otherwise. In fact because of the different possibilities for sub-genres it is a better filter and organizer than that on GOG's main page. Its just a matter of more people being aware of this.
I have 60 games in my collection now. Not being able to categorize them is starting to be a serious problem for me, and the manual sort in the game shelf just isn't a good alternative.
Similar to: www.gog.com/wishlist/site/a_decent_game_shelf
But I agree, the shelf needs more options.
I mean, when you have a lot of games, you want more ways to keep track of them.
i'm really surprised there aren't a bunch of votes here :/ i've got about 220 games on my shelf and it's a major pain in the ass
I'm voting this too. My collection is still small but growing steadily (too many promotions!). It would be wonderful to be able to create extra tab and rename them as we like: cRPG, aRPG, FPS, RTS, Adventure and so on!
how come so few people want this feature??
This is a really needed feature.
yeah...more sorting options kthx. Especially since gog messed up my own sort order some week ago :(
This is the most important request here.
