Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls

Fantastic game

Very happy I decided to pick up this one and also sad to read some of the reviews here, I feel like the game has been misjudged by some people: This is an excellent dungeon crawler, inspired by the old Wizardry titles and thus very raw in essence. It's not comfortable to play and it won't hold your hand. Take your time learning about the classes and building your party as information is very sparse. Besides that, my experience with Labyrinth of Lost Souls has been fantastic and if you like exploring catacombs and slaughtering hordes of monsters I bet you are going to love it!

Heroes of Might and Magic®

Amazing Turn-Based Strategy Game!

Build up the strongest hero you can imagine, manage a full supporting network to grant him the best army and artifacts you can find, make him learn powerful spells and conquer your enemies! The original HoMM is the first and predecessor to the fantastic Heroes games that would come later and entertain us for many, many hours. Still, it's loads of fun on its own! About the art: Graphics might be one of the most striking differences, even having a quite different style I find them very likeable and unique. Music is *excellent*, sound is great too considering the age of this title. About the gameplay: Way simpler but in no way easier. Original HoMM has 4 factions (Town, Plains, Forest, Mountains) and 4 different hero types (Barbarian, Knight, Warlock, Sorceress), all of them very interesting and offering lots of possibilities. On the battlefield you control 5 stacks of units, again, lots of possible strategies! Battles can have so many outcomes I recommend saving A LOT. Give it a try!!

D&D Stronghold: Kingdom Simulator

Wish I had discovered it earlier!

I LOVE Majesty and I remember I used to regret there were so few titles like it. I love D&D too, so I bought this one just because of the title and the SSI brand, which never disappointed me. It was not until a few weeks ago I decided to give it a go… Now I can't stop sinking hours into it! I was completely unaware of how good this sim is! Beautiful, deep, complex, slow-paced and extremely faithful to Dungeons & Dragons rules. A dream come true! Thank you GOG.

Loria

Best new old RTS out there

It's very hard to give an unbiased review on Loria, given its shameless similarity to the Warcraft series. The resemblance is so striking it really itches you to just re-install War2. But technically you just have to admit Loria is far superior in... Basically everything. It delivers a lot of fun and keeps the essence intact, if not more polished and perfected. And once you scratch past the surface you see enough differences to go well beyond the "clone" definition. It's not original, but it's too damn good to ignore.

Akalabeth: World of Doom

Rewarding & unique old school experience

Back in my 20s, I was on a quest to find the most raw and primitive rpg games out there - Akalabeth delivered just what I was looking for and I had a lot of fun playing it. Today, I'm replaying this old gem and it still feels unique and special to me. The premise is very simple: roll stats, pick class, start as a weakling, go dungeon crawling, earn money, back to surface (ladder spells help A LOT), get better gear, raise hit points, go back to dungeon crawling, rinse and repeat until you make it to the final boss. It is pretty simple compared to today's standards, but it can get challenging. You'll find yourself dead sooner than expected if you low your guard. Even after beating the game, you can keep descending the dungeon and fight the harder monsters. Considering its age, Akalabeth is a hell of a ride and I encourage every rpg lover to give it a try.
