Konami Collector's Series: Castlevania & Contra

Not too shabby.

It's a decent little collection, albeit a bit basic in terms of presentation. What's on offer here are all winners, even the secret game Jackal. You'll find no special screen filters or a rewind gimmick, as this is an older compilation.

Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore

When an homage outshines the inspiration

This is essentially a spiritual successor to the infamous CDi Legend of Zelda games, Wand of Gamelon and Faces of Evil, even incorporating some of the people involved with those. The difference here, is that the gameplay actually works, so you given a glimpse of what could have been had those games been made competently. Judged on it's merits, Arzette is a really fun Metroid-lite!

BATTLETECH

A dream come true.

We've achieved the technology that allows for a perfect digital representation of one of the greatest table top games of all time. It's all here! The combat is beautifully recreated in stunning detail. As someone who grew up playing the FASA game, with the books and the maps and the miniatures this is as good as it gets!

Resident Evil 2

This is as good as it gets.

What you have here is the best port of the best classic Resident Evil game, exactly as I remember it.

The Outer Worlds

New Vegas in space, kinda.

If you're aching for something reminiscent of Fallout: New Vegas, you could do a lot worse than this. That's not to say its just "New Vegas in space", it has its own identity and flavor, with its movie serial style sci-fi visuals. Its not as opened up as New Vegas, but I'd still say it counts as "open world".

Savage Warriors

An interesting fighting game.

Savage Warriors tried to be different. It succeeded at being different, but that doesn't necessarily make it great. It's a 2-D fighting game where the character bodies are made of segmented sprites, so what you have are characters that look weirdly chunky and move like pre-mocap 3-D. It plays well enough, if not a little basic, with there being just two attack buttons. I think it plays better than say, Body Blows. If you can get it cheap, go for it.

DOOM + DOOM II

The complete Doom/II Package.

Everything. All of it. All of the officially released Doom 1 and 2 games and expansions. As well as some new stuff! New optional music as well!

Resident Evil

A Perfectly Preserved Jill Sandwich.

This is the original PC port of Resident Evil. Why is that significant? Because it is the only version of the original game to be released in the US that is completely uncensored. Stuff like the the extra gory cutscenes and Chris lighting a cigarette are left intact. The real only change I could find in this port is a QoL improvement, supporting modern gamepads.

Desert Thunder

Just blow it all up!

This isn't a realistic simulator. This is an arcade-style game. You destroy everything in your path, pick up buffs and follow the waypoints.

Ys I & II Chronicles+

A nice little two-pack.

Ys was something of an entry-level action RPG back in the day. This set is a remaster of a remake of the original two titles in the series. The gameplay itself is largely intact. Light inventory management, and real-time combat where you kind of bump into your enemies. The audiovisual presentation is very nice. Its come a long way since I played the first Ys on the Master System.
