First: there is an extra executables included with the install. Remember to use dxcfg to set up graphics and whatnot before you run the game. Image quality will be much better if you head there first. Unless you want the more pixilated & jagged original look, then don't fiddle. Also note: F9 exits the game and F7 (iirc) switches antialiasing on and off. I don't know why they went for such weird key combos, but there you have it. I played through the game with an xbox wireless controller and had no problems at all. The game is stable and works as intended. It looks good without any actual remastering or retexturing at all. This is the original game on new hardware, nothing more. The game itself is fun. It's often described as Resident Evil with Dinosaurs and that's pretty accurate. play style is tank controls, and it's a survival horror. Ammo and health are in short supply. Plenty of enemies to engage or avoid. lots of puzzles as you explore the map. The puzzles were largely fun and not too taxing. you'll want to make a few notes here and there to jot down passwords and things, but nothing overtly obtuse except for one pair of passwords that had me stumped near the end. Luckily online resources nowadays provided instant help and I realised what i was doing wrong. This was the only time I needed any outside help so the game largely does it's job well at being tricky, but not too tricky. Overall I enjoyed it. I don't usually get on well with tank controls anymore, but I enjoyed my time with this one. Not too long either (my first ever play through was around 8-9 hours of play time) although there are 3 ends to get and bonuses for replaying if you're so inclined.
An enjoyable romp that feels like old comedic point and click adventures meet HP Lovecraft's mythos. It's almost as if Monkey Island did Call of Cthuhlu and there are a few head-nods here and there to games that have obviously inspired Gibbous. Animations and voice acting are pretty decent and reminiscent of point and click in it's heyday when there was full voice acting and smooth, cartoonish animation. The characters are mostly well written and help further the story along. The story itself is fitting and amusing. I found one character seemed a bit 'rushed in' as if the story was trimmed near the end and some of their scenes may have been cut making them a bit less memorable than the others, but the story overall seemed to be pretty logical and fit the mythos on which it's based. There's some nice lore hidden around if you examine everything too. After about 10 hours of playing (I took my time and examined everything, but also missed a handful of achievements) I finished the game. Enjoyable. I would buy a sequel if there was one, and will keep an eye out to see if the creators publish anything else.
