Do not feel discouraged. For me this clicked as soon as I just found a copper source, build simple campfire, mined copper, sold it, bought building materials, build a shack and repeated. everything comes natural after that. Give it an hour or two. You will not be disappointed afterwards!
This is a game nobody creates anymore. Full freedom. Combat was never its strong point, but you can deal with it. Not very balanced class system, but you can choose depending if you want to have a challenge or not. Very well written, as well. Dive deep into this world and realize, that the last 60 minutes of playtime have been 6 hours for real.
