INSOMNIA: The Ark

Not the game it wishes it was

This game is a lot of things, finished isn't one of them. It tries to pull an AA game, while barely making the effort to reach A. The Good : The ambiance and story seem top notch from where I stand, which is 7 hours in. It could have settled with just being a little RPG with retrofuturistic aesthetics, but pushes beyond with a few original world building idea (which I haven't all discovered yet). No quest markers so you have to learn to know where things are and look for them (cool if you're into that Morrowind shit). Not really an open world though. The Bad : Gameplay wise, they left the isometric field halfway through and it shows. The camera and aiming system feel (and are) patched together with duct tape to offer a mediocre experience with no depth whatsoever. Expect minimal service. The inventory is a chore to use with no sorting system. Also, the items stored into the personal locker used to disappear, making the limited inventory space a massive handicap (might have been patched). Useless hunger and thirst system. The Ugly : Bugs galore. Inventory stops working -> quit+relaunch. Death screen doesn't load -> quit+relaunch. Non english-translated bits. The quests locations indications are either imprecise or inexistant, making the player run around in the wrong location for virtually nothing. A lot of unexplained game systems. A Fistful of Dollars : The game is cheap, but I don't recommend paying more than 10$ to get your money worth. There might be something truly great in it along the line. For a Few Dollars More : If you're into that kind of games, and like it janky, get Technomancer. It's as bad, but less frustrating to play. Alternatively if you're into the talky bits, get Disco Elysium, it's amazing. If what you like is to explore shit with some okayish story, and similar aesthetics, go for the Outer Worlds.
