Despite its rough launch, CP2077 (post-patches & Phantom Liberty) is phenomenal – arguably the best game of the 2020s. As a huge fan of Deus Ex (2000) - my GOAT - CP2077 is a fantastic consolation now that the DX franchise is sadly dormant. It scratches that specific cyberpunk sim itch. My Christmas wish: CDPR, please buy the Deus Ex IP! It fits CDPR profile perfectly with The Witcher/Cyberpunk, and you'd do it justice. Maybe not expensive if the current owner doesn't want it. Night City is stunningly realized. While I miss Deus Ex 1's constant night, the day/night cycle works for this open world. The contrast between NC's urban sprawl and the Badlands is masterfully done. The '80s-based retro-future world is fascinating too. The narrative truly shines: the main story branches well with spectacular missions, often better than source novellas. Side quests aren't filler; many surpass other games' main plots in writing and atmosphere. Still, there are missed opportunities, likely cut during development. A functional Metro/public transport is sorely missed for immersion. Also, finishing the Delamain quest optimally should reward a self-driving car, given their AI nature. Player-controlled AVs are another absence; seeing them fly while V is grounded feels odd. Expensive, high-maintenance AVs (with running costs) would be a great late-game addition/money sink via DLC. Why is DX1 still my GOAT? Its philosophical depth. CP2077's story is impressive and engaging, but doesn't quite reach DX1's profound level. Despite minor gripes, CP2077 is a phenomenal achievement: immersive world, great characters/quests. A much-needed fix for cyberpunk fans, especially those mourning Deus Ex. Highly recommended.
