I.G.I. 2: Covert Strike

Where is IGI?

IGI 2 was such a disappointment to those that played IGI and experienced what an open shooter could be. I paid big money back in the day for IGI 2 and it ranks high on my list of letdowns that I have purchased. It ranks up there with the all time worst reboot - Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising.

Time suck!

If your target is a game that is so good that you get the just one more planet mentality, and before you know it is 1 AM in the morning, this is that game! Also if you do get this, I would HIGHLY recommend you play on the hardest level. Why? It affects the number of enemies and how well equipped they are. The fights turn into massively epic battles and it makes this game that much better! On normal, it is like a story mode and you become massively overpowered way too fast and it loses a lot of its appeal. Nothing can destroy you mid game on normal level. You can waltz in to a massive fight and blow everyone away, so it just becomes story at that point. I think the hardest level should have been the normal level and normal should have been story mode. You are not alone in this fight either. If you hide behind a friendly and let the enemies plasma hit them instead of you, you can cause a war between the aliens and this makes the battles even that much more epic! Not enough can be said about this one. It is a good one.

Prince of Persia®: The Sands of Time

Best Prince of Persia game by far

If you want a PoP game with all the charm, great story, and fun levels, this is the one to have. The 2nd best is the one from 1989. That one is also great. The PoP games that come after SoT are pretty meh but you can't go wrong with this one. Widescreen fix for those interested: https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/1999-prince-of-persia-sands-of-time-widescreen-fix-by-nemesis2000/ I have the widescreen fix running perfectly fine at 3840x1600. Without it, you will get 4:3 up to 1600x1200 only. Linux users: Running Lutris with Glorious Eggroll Proton 7-43.

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within

Got bored of it really quick

I was hoping for an amped up Sands of Time, but what I got was not only boring, but involved a lot of backtracking and I just find it uninspiring. I found the Prince to be more like a back street thug than a real prince as well. More a thief vibe. I think that is what I am getting here.... It doesn't feel like a Prince of Persia game. I think it is just borrowing its title and some of its back story.

Tropico 4

Fun title

I probably should rehash what has been said already. Fun humorous game that is a good city builder. Have no problem running this on Linux to those interested. Via Lutris with Proton Glorious Eggroll 7.43 (lutris version). One issue I have though is that it doesn't like my 3840x1600 resolution, but 2952x1232 works? I guess it is still UWD and still looks good. I find that if I adjust res in game to 3840, it works. If I try and start a mission at that res? Chokes. Go figure. Game just does not like that resolution. Of course monitors in UWD didn't exist when this game was made so that might have something to do with it. I will try and manually set 3440x1440 and see if it can at least deal with that.

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries - JumpShip Edition

Great for tactics

Been rolling my Spider 30 ton mainly. It is a Hero Mech version with dual AMS anti-missile defenses of the class 6 variety. I have modified it extensively so that it can exceed 149 kmh and it has all class 5 and 6 weaponry. Extremely hard to hit at that speed. Example game play: Last mission I had a Rifleman for long range support and two assault mechs, one a King Crab and one an Annihilator. I will scout with the extremely fast Spider and on enemy contact I will make a decision, take down the enemy or bring it into range of the heavies... If I bring it into range of the heavies, now the enemy has a choice to make... Expose its rear armor to a 100 ton class Assault Mech (not a good idea), or expose its rear armor to me (also not a good idea). Either way, it doesn't go well for them. You can exploit them in this way. I read below that some feel threatened in a 75 ton class Mech. You should feel threatened if another 75 ton class Mech shows up. Then it is one on one. The better pilot wins and it could be 50/50 just like it should be. Tactics and effective use of your squad will always win the day though... I am good enough to where I won't even lose a weapon on any of my Mech's in a given mission. Last thought: Level up your team. If a teammate is weak in laser weapons, put him in a mech with only laser weapons. He will learn. A good pilot is worth more than an additional 100 ton mech.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Could have been way better

One of the things I loved about DE:HR is that you traveled to so many locals from the US to China and the experience felt new each time. DE:MD however you are stuck in one small city. You cannot go very far. It is not large and expansive like Cyberpunk 2077. It is small areas generally. It just feels claustrophobic. If you are going to do small areas, you really need many locations in modern games. The original Deus Ex knew the above. This one does not.
