Tyranny - Gold Edition

a complete package

i played tyranny before pillars of eternity. for a project that was underfunded, understaffed and released before it was finished. it sure feels like a more complete project than POE. the best parts of the game are: -the magic system blew me away. modular spells that can be customized and upgraded. even a hobo warrior could use a simple starting version of a spell, while high level mages can use spells that have like 10 different modifiers attached -your companions are all seriously interesting people and have great voicelines. my favorite was lantry -the world is nicely fleshed out, you see more of the backstory through dialogue than through some vague codex entry. dialogue also has quick links that explain concepts, so you never feel you have no clue what the chat is about. -the size of the game lends itself well for multiple playthroughs. at least 2 should be tried, loyalist and rebel, since whole maps play completely differently in these scenarios the worst parts of it are: -everything is smaller. the party size is player +3 companions. the maps are smaller. quests resolve faster (usually its just, visit one map, have one short fight and return to NPC) -for the purposes of the story, sometimes your dialogue options are too limited or the world makes no sense -a normal length act 1, a decent length act 2, and a comically fast act 3 with no sense of proper pacing
