When The Past Was Around

Great art, beautiful game

Imagine a world without words, just music, images, actions and reactions.. In this world you solve simple puzzles which brings you to the next scene where you do the same thing. Does it sound boring? it's not. It is a game about emotions and loss with beautiful graphics and sound. I am not able to finish it since I play offline, but if you play using the Galaxy client you will be able to finish it. The Galaxy client requirement should have been noted on this page, hence I mention it here. For more information, please check the forum page.

Armikrog - Deluxe Edition

While it is somewhat of a beta release

The game which I don't own here is as is said by other reviewers some kind of beta release which can pass as ok by those interested in clay animation (I enjoy it, but not more than three stars), in this setting though, the very fact that the soundtrack is only presented as MP3 is unforgivable. Fact is that the CD format with its 16-Bits/44,1KHz is a tad too little as the human ear can in its younger years experience up to 48 KHz and so why on earth would you want to cripple it even more by introducing a lossy MP3 to the setting? This is, in my opinion, beyond any reasonable explanation. For the rest I totally agree with @Br00ce

HIVESWAP: Act 1 Soundtrack Edition

Great, but MP3 only

This is not to criticize the game which I think is great, but the edition: HIVESWAP: Act 1 Soundtrack Edition... I really like the music, but they should have noted that this is no lossless release in FLAC or similar format. Rather it is presented in mp3 format (think of it as the Jpeg lossy picture format for music). In these days of {almost} unlimited storage I personally feel that there's no reasons for not releasing the full format files. IOW; I would not have bought this version if the information was available.

LOOM™

One of the most unique adventures ever!

One of the most unique adventures ever made, Loom is a brainchild of Brian Moriarty (the brain behind Infocom's Wishbringer and Trinity). The game's intriguing plot is enough to ensure its "classic" status: You are Bobbin Threadbare, the mysterious "Loom child" and member of the Weaver Guild who must embark on a perilous journey to follow his guild members who were turned into Swans and flew away from the Loom island. Moriarty raised the game's originality even higher by giving us no inventory. Instead, all puzzles in the game are based on "spells" cast by playing notes on a magical staff. Definitely a must-have for all adventure enthusiasts. To get you in the right frame of mind and set up the story, the designers included a thirty-minute cassette recording that features a superbly acted and relevant docu-drama that sets the tone of the game. The original CD version of the audio drama was limited to 1,000 copies and offered as a promotional item to attendees of the Loom launch party, held at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, January 1990. Sadly, the audio drama is not included with the GOG release and while having the background story is not strictly necessary, I tracked down the Lossless/Flac CD version here: mega.nz/file/ctQQHYxL#lxxbPoawlOi9awVboqxTWEzgojcq37qWNA3WPoVb9iA This seems to be a later CD version released in Japan as the audio prolog is found both in Japanese as track #1 and English as track #2 and then continues like the ltd ed: Tracklist 01 - Loom 29:24 02 - The Weavers 06:16 03 - Flight of the Swan 01:25 04 - Bobbin 02:28 05 - The Seventeenth Visit 01:29

DethKarz

Great ARCADE racer

This is absolutely not a simulator, but great arcade racing it is. I have owned it since it was released and it has been installed on all computers from that point. I will focus on the gameplay as you can read the other reviews for the description. It is a little easier to drive using an analog or wheel joystick compared to using the arrow-keys and [Shift]/[Ctrl], but with a little experience you will become good using even the keyboard. If you choose the plasma cannon as your main weapon, please note that holding the [Shift] key down a little before releasing it will increase the firepower. There are many shortcuts on the various tracks so try to jump off a curve if it seems possible. This game also have a built-in cheat-system. Press and hold [Ctrl]+[Shift]+[C] on the main screen to change the ABOUT menu choice to CHEATS. Click on CHEATS, type one or more of the following codes separated by [Enter]: GLOBAL - All tracks are selectable DEV 6 - All cars are selectable RACE CORPS - All seasons are selectable in Championship Mode TATSU MAKI - More fire power PEP! - All powerups are turbo powerups H-PLUS - Invulnerability In my view, the built-in cheat system is great to be able to play all tracks and cars in Arcade mode. Hope it helps :)

Fight'N Rage

Great new 'oldschool' beat 'em up

This is actually a great nod back to old school gaming and is equally hard to the extent you'd wish you had access a trainer from time to time. The graphics are, just like the game play, arcade and is rewarding if you invest some time in it, but don't expect an easy ride. I love it though and that means graphic, sound and game progress as they really makes up a whole. The fact that you can adjust the game to your level of play easy-hard adds to it :)

The Longest Journey

Absolutely stunning for its time

Every now and then a game comes along that sucks you into its world so completely that you vanish into it for days at a time, surfacing only for food and sleep when you just physically can't play any longer. That was the story some 20 years ago, but the fact is that the game still holds up today. I am a tad troubled that the GOG version does not have Norwegian or Swedish audio since FunCom was a Norwegian company and the fact that it was released in Norwegian right from the start. In this context, it seems a tad odd that (while it contains more languages at least for the installer), only English and Polish is mentioned as languages on the page here. Yes, I am a registered owner, but have never installed this first, long deprecated 4-CD source as I have access to my DVD (originally first issued as a 2-CD version) with Norwegian, Swedish and English language which I play through ResidualVM: www.residualvm.org and have applied the HD mod by Faberman: tljhd.github.io/ No matter your language preference, I suggest you dig up a DVD or 2-CD edition and do it the same way...you won't regret it, I promise :)

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition

Ultimate version

The Witcher 3 is about the most fantastic I've played. Coming all the way from the dark ages of text only adventures (computerized since 1979), I am a true silver gamer. I have gotten a little picky I have to admit, but when I first tried The Witcher, the one that started it all I was amazed by even the story. Here, finally, the old Zork in me found something to hold on to. Combining action, adventure and RPG in a way that finally gave meaning to even the graphics. This is it, a rare breed of games that have earned their place in future classic games history and if you have not tried the Witcher - Start from the first and work your way up to this. Hours upon hours of rewarding history and gaming ahead of you and besides, a good story for future grand children - you were part of it :) While I am one who bought the game a year ahead of release and have understanding for the view of not having to pay again, I do consider the choice. After all I did buy it a year up front to support development and since I am dying to see what's next...
