Very enjoyable follow up to Darkside Detective, quite a step up from the first, admittedly very good adventure game. I like the episodic 'levels', the self contained adventures. It works. Some might prefer an overarching storyline and game, but I really like how this works. Some of the episodes I enjoyed more than others, but they were all very well done, aside from the politically charged reference to the black and tans, in the third episode, which was highly out of place, I thought, the whole game fits together really well. The interface and loading of scenes is quick and responsive. There are plenty of achievements to unlock, the graphics have improved the second time out with some lovely cut scenes. Overall this is an excellent adventure, though I am not sure why the developer chose to have other characters follow McQueen around, as they seem to just be there, and I would like to save when I want to, not autosaves, but that gripe aside I thoroughly enjoyed 100%-ing both adventures.
this is a really good graphic adventure with a lo-fi graphic vibe. It's good good music, good animation and characters. Logical puzzles and fun sequences. There are a lot of clever touches. Occasionally the dialogue is confusing, as an adventure set in America, they sometimes use British slang, at other times the dialogue is very American, aside from that minor quibble and it is a quibble, this game is very well made and a lot of fun to play.
This is a great, loving rework of the original game. The controls have been modernised so there is less fiddling and it's all very intuitive. The graphics have had a modern HD overhall, with CGI redraws of scenes, and then hand finishing, there are shadows when the player walks, it just feels very modern despite its origins. Hopefully 2 will get this treatment as well at some point.
There is enough new content to warrent an additional purchase. I bought both the original Kathy Rain and this the Director's Cut. I played them both through completely, collecting all the achivements in subsequent playthroughs. I thoroughly enjoyed the additional content and puzzles in this expanded edition and I look forward to new games from this developer in the future.
