Surprisingly good gameplay, had a lot of fun upgrading and tuning my armies. Quite interesting with the randomness of the items you get to do so. At first the story seemed interesting to me but sadly it went downhill pretty quickly. I didn't mind the generic setup at first but the change in pace was very sudden and i completely lost interest in the story in the middle part of the game. Nonetheless gameplay made up for it.
Taking in consideration this is not a AAA title, this game is superb. There are some very cool innovations to the 4X genre. One of these innovations is especially important which is improving the lategame and win conditions, making the end very achievable and not that much of a drag. UI and artstyle might not be everyones cup of tea, I personally like it very much. Some UI things you have to figure out yourself while playing the game, which is something I like about games. You get some very cool "Eureka" moments within the game which will help you get better and play the game on higher difficulties. I think they hit a very good spot with the difficulty overall. Just start on the lowest or second lowest tier and work your way up. If you somewhat think you're a strategy expert and you are going to start on the highest difficulty you will 100% have a bad time. The highest difficulty is true to its name really impossible on a first playthrough. The support for the game has been incredible. No "huge patch" announcements or "gamechanging" stuff, but small incremental steps to improve the balance and game. Great jobs by the devs honestly and it sadly is quite a rare thing today. With the DLC addition I figured I never wrote a review here on GOG, so it's time for that. The DLC is quite good too. It is fair priced, the kind of content I would expect paying this price. It would be awesome if they keep adding things and especially stories to the game. The stories are nothing too deep, but still a nice extra while enjoying a strategy game with tactical battles. Thank you for this game!
If you are a fan of Deck Building and Roguelites then this game is for you: Interesting concept of the game world and great storytelling with many different deck possiblities. Very cool game and appearantly the devs are still working on DLCs and Addons which is good news. Looking forward to seeing more. Only minor negative aspect of the game is the "grind"(and maybe addition^^). But well this is for completionists, so no worries for the people who just want to have fun from time to time. For a couple of fun runs this is perfect.
For fans of the Warcraft 3 Campaign or the older Spellforce titles this game is a must! Plays like a mixture of Age of Empires and Pillars of Eternity. Visiuals and especially voice acting are top notch and outstanding. The gameplay itself is solid although there are some minor pathing issues or the like. I actually like the new economy and worker management a lot! It is innovative and interesting. Great game offering a lot of fun!
Great dungeon-crawler. If you like grid-based games then this is definitely for you. It is debatable wether a Turn-based system would have worked better for the combat. But there are games like Lords of Xulima or the new Bard's Tale that will cover this. So the combat experience can lead to some frustration when it is all about clicking fast and strifing or circling. Nevertheless a great game, very nice riddles and puzzles. Great work by the developers and the sequel is a good game aswell although from the setup I do prefer the first game.
