Killing Time: Resurrected

Just looks old and janky

I get that GOG's whole schtick is reviving classic older game (or it used to be GOG's focus) but some of these older, fugly looking games need to stay in the grave. This one has pixels so big I was scared they'd eat my face.

Capes

Bland art, woke influences. Avoid.

A number of preventable issues plague Capes ruining what could've been a fun new Turn-based contender in the genre. I had high expectations, like many of us did, however, modern social/political influences and lazy art design destroyed any hope this game had of being a hit. Let's start with the graphic and artistic design of the characters - as this is one of the more glaring issues players will notice. Superheroes are amazing and need to look like it. Capes' art design is about as bland as can be. Costumes are non-descript and the first main Villain is so poorly designed, graphically, that it almost feels like place-holder art. The heroes aren't much better. The final issue with Capes is how heavily it appears to have been influenced by the developers' desire to appeal to modern "woke" sensibilities in the form of heavy-handed catering to DEI foolishness. I could see the insidious influence of woke kowtowing when the game has you go find a 3rd member of your team and hilariously enough they were in a wheelchair. Nothing wrong with a wheelchair-bound hero (See: Prof. Xavier of the X-men) but in this case it was obviously done to suit an agenda. When will developers realize that no one wants this or wants to see political or social knee-bending in their games? There's a reason consumers came up with the phrase, "Go woke, go broke" and this game beautifully illustrates that point as it was a huge deserved flop. If you can get this game on a huge discount it might be a bit fun if you can keep from throwing up at the blatant DEI infestation. But really, games that do this type of thing should be avoided and boycotted. A final note, the writing itself is fairly bland and insipid as well. It's annoying to see some higher-scored reviews from websites like crappy IGN or PC Gamer when they clearly ignored the game's many, many issues. More proof that modern gaming sites are corrupt and pointless. SMH Avoid.

Broken Roads

Underwhelming

Avoid. It looks great from screengrabs but it's less than mediocre, at best. So many dumb decisions affecting what could've been a good game.

SOUTH PARK: SNOW DAY!

Seems fun.

Watched buddy play this for several hours. It's true to the subject matter/IP, pretty funny, and decent co-op combat. Plus, bonus, no garbage Sweet Baby Inc/Woke crap in it, either. So refreshing. I agree with the other poster here, I worry about co-op/crossplay?

Imagine Earth

An okay game

The social causes driving the game's story and philosophy are annoying and as inaccurate as they are in real life (Global warming crap) but the game is solid, though it bogs into tedium later in the game. Nothing special overall but if you were dying for a game to nag you about Global Warming, here's your chance.

Distant Worlds: Universe

Vastly over-priced

Considering the graphical and audio quality (which is budget quality, sadly), this is ridiculously overpriced. At 30 bucks or less, this would be a solid purchase for this type of genre but in no reality is this a 60 dollar game. Wait for it to be heavily discounted, then it might be worth a purchase. Until then, avoid.

Wasteland 3

Disappointing and consolized.

Unfortunately the purchase of the Wasteland devs by MicroSuck has led to an underwhelming sequel full of bugs and boneheaded design decisions impacting camera angles, User-interface, and over feel of the game. Furthermore, throwing in some moronic political statement by lampooning one of the country's better presidents (Ronald Reagan) was bizarre and unnecessary, as well. I can't see this sequel being worth a purchase even at a way better sale price. They dropped the ball badly on this one. Avoid.

Phoenix Point

X-Com Reborn in grand fashion (sort of)

Phoenix Point is a direct spiritual sequel created by the original X-Com's original designer, Julian Gollop. It was launched first on Epic, much to the whining complaints of many of the game's original backers, who seemed unable to find enjoyment from a game unless it was on the platform of their choice. Either way, it's very good. Now. At first launch, a year ago, it still wasn't really ready for prime time. Bugs and balance issues, some UI problems and other small issues combined to give this game a Beta feel even after launch. However, as these things tend to go, the devs have diligently kept at it and have continued releasing both DLC (free for most Backers) and massive patches, tweaking everything from game balance to bugs and improving the UI constantly. These improvements have put the game where it is now, in a great place! The combat is a strength as it should be, because it's the beating heart of everything. Detailed and filled with options, it provides players with great tactical gameplay. The management aspect is varied and isn't necessarily blended as perfectly as it could be but the devs seemd focused on continually folding it into the game properly, so I have little concerns it'll work great once more completed. Graphics are excellent though in fairness a wee bit generic at times. Sound is fine. Controls work well. All in all, this is a delicious cake that it is more than the sum of its ingredients. I've seen some of the other reviews here, including the laughably inaccurate and biased 1-star review that's been listed as most helfpul, and they're not correct. Take those remarks with a massive grain of salt. This is quite a good game for this genre.
