I got this game many years ago, while using Windows XP. The gameplay is simple as classic like Diablo. You keep getting quests from town npcs and going deep into dungeons to kill mobs and bosses. You have many items to collect, you have a pet that can help you. You have gems to use on your items. You have a npc that you can pay him to give magical status to your equipments and some times It will break and give bad status. You can fish. This game was developed years before Torchlight, guy who did Fate, joined with some who worked on Diablo and then Torchlight was developed. That's why many could see many features from both here. But with modern system many could not make it run. Them I got Steam version, working like a charm. And finally GOG version here, oh my!
Let's start... you have A huge world to travel and explore. I mean huge, with undergrounds caves and secret passages. While exploring you will face many monsters, like golins, trolls, cyclops, griphons, hydras, chimeras, harpies, dragons, drakes, wyverns, bandits, bats and even more. You have thousands of itens to gather, armors, weapons, equipments, potions, utilities and stuff. You have vaste classes, like Warrior, Mage, Sorcerer, Assassin, Ranger, Magic Archer, Fighter and Strider. Each one has skills and spells, for each player to decide which one suits better. You have a main story to follow, beeing able to only do main quests or go to side and side-side quests. Along that you have board quests, that ask you to travel to some places beeing bodyguard to someone or kill X monsters or acquire some rare itens. Those quests give you huge amount of money or some rare itens. In the Dark Arisen DLC, you can travel to BitterBlack Island, a place not welcome to new players. Every monster there can welcome you to death.... you actually meat Death (Grim Reaper) in that island... and, my advice, RUN.
If you think this game is almost a clone of Empire Earth... well... it was made by the same company. While in Empire Earth you can point bonuses for each nation, they almost share the same units. In Empires: Dawn of the Modern World you actually have different units for each nation. You get atomic bombers for USA, you get V2 Missile for Germans and etc. You have better texture for units and better sound effects. I miss modern wars on this one, but nothing that can make me dislike it. Ahh, and you can set a population limit up to 80k... if your computer be able to handle that :P.
My first Novalogic game was F-22 Lightning 2 and since then, i started to enjoy their games. When I got a Demo of Delta Force 1 and later the Full release, It was awsome. Yeah, there are many features missing but for it's time, it's ok. Enemies patrol the terrain but detect you easly, making some missions hard to beat in stealth mode. You can choose any kind of weapons every mission (besides the game suggest some), so, you can play with Barret Sniper in every single mission. You have many missions to beat and at the time, you could easly play online using Novaworld, which I managed to play few times. It is indeed a very fun game to play. You can choose easy mode or realistc mode, where you die very offen. It's not a game for players that are new to the franchise and only played modern FPS games.
